A federal judge has ordered a Texas school district to prohibit public prayer at a high school graduation ceremony.
Chief U.S. District Judge Fred Bierys order against the Medina Valley Independent School District also forbids students from using specific religious words including prayer and amen.
The ruling was in response to a lawsuit filed by Christa and Danny Schultz. Their son is among those scheduled to participate in Saturdays graduation ceremony. The judge declared that the Schultz family and their son would suffer irreparable harm if anyone prayed at the ceremony.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said the school district is in the process of appealing the ruling, and his office has agreed to file a brief in their support.

I am also not happy that a very vocal minority is holding the rest of the country hostage by their temper tantrums and abuse and misuse of the judiciary.
While the atheists complain about establishment of a state religion when it comes to Christianity, they don’t give a rip about imposing THEIR religion on others as a state sanctioned religion.
What hypocrites.
And I can guarantee you that if anyone challenged a muslim prayer, he would be laughed out of court.
If it wasn’t a five hour drive, I’d have made plans to attend the graduation.
Fair enough. But first, are you a homosexual?
So, you'd rather force the kids to comply with the whiny atheist brat and marxist judge's demands?
Nope. So straight that the US Navy uses me for navigation.
Your turn.
He asked a valid question, and he asked it first. More than that, there is no apparent connection between your question and his. If he is not a homosexual will you refuse to answer his question?
Let’s be frank, shall we? Did you just log in to stir up trouble and be a troll? If so, I am asking you nicely to please not do that.
There was no connection between my posts and supporting Obama. I consider that type of accusation to be a very weak form of debate. I threw out the question about sexual preference as an example.
See? that wasn’t so hard. Now can you explain why you are on a conservative site that the Boss of clearly points out is for those into things like Guns, God and Freedom and are backing a liberal interpretation of what freedom OF religion is?
PS...the gay thing...were you looking for a date? Just ...ahem...curious...
My position can be summed up from your about page.
Stand by your convictions. Stand by your morals and your values.
On the contrary, since the majority of the citizens in this country are of some sort of Christian affiliation and have made is clearly known that they wish for public displays of religion to be in schools, the sensitive, God hating cry babies should use the option they toss to Christians like an old bone.
There is nothing stop them from starting up or enrolling them in their own atheist, God free schools. If there is not one near them, they are free to homeschool. You know, the option Christians are always presented with when they disagree with something. Why is the onus to take the action always on the Christians?
After all.....
If you want your children to be in a Christian an atheistic school, enroll them in a Christian an atheistic school, but don't make everyone who lives near you to also be a Christian an atheist.
And that is exactly what you are advocating.
Slow day over at the DUmp for you?
I'll bet you're more than curious. I guess I was on to something after all.
There is a significant difference between standing up for your convictions and trolling.
I am asking you not to troll, if that is your intention. Not that trolls admit it, but just on the off chance that it would work.
However, if you’re not trolling, you have no need to consider my request.
Poor guess. But if you are a dude with the screen name of “Doe Eyes” ...well...you know...not that there’s anything wrong with that... ;)
However, I hope you are not a troll hounding me. I do not support trolls on this forum.
Our little local school district has no end to religion and God mentioned in it.
Religious Christmas carols at Christmas, prayer at graduations, very little of the PC secular nonsense, and the health curriculum is pretty glossed over. No produce allowed.
You must live close; it is twice that far for us...
(Most non-Texans have no sense of just how big this State really is...)
Anyone who is not a Texan has no clue about the way ANYTHING is in Texas, let alone the driving times.
And I live fairly close, but not close enough to make the drive. Mostly it’s the gas money, to be honest. If gas prices were lower I’d be willing to make the drive. I’d want to be there.
Another jackass defying the Constitution.
