A federal judge has ordered a Texas school district to prohibit public prayer at a high school graduation ceremony.
Chief U.S. District Judge Fred Biery’s order against the Medina Valley Independent School District also forbids students from using specific religious words including “prayer” and “amen.”
The ruling was in response to a lawsuit filed by Christa and Danny Schultz. Their son is among those scheduled to participate in Saturday’s graduation ceremony. The judge declared that the Schultz family and their son would “suffer irreparable harm” if anyone prayed at the ceremony.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said the school district is in the process of appealing the ruling, and his office has agreed to file a brief in their support.

Please. I have spent my life around people thinking they have the biggest, best and only ‘truth’ regarding the bible. Do you have any idea how many people that those like you drive away from faith? As with all Bible verses, context is key. If you read verses 1-4, you will see that Jesus is teaching about not being flashy or showy about being righteous, and He included public prayer in the context of praying to show everyone else how "holy" you are. Additionally, Jesus uses this to teach about the omnipresence of God. You don't need to pray loudly for your prayers to be heard by God, for He is everywhere and can more than readily hear your prayers even if you pray silently.
If Jesus was so "against" public prayer in the sense that He wanted to do all of our prayer in a closet, then we certainly would not have the later books of the New Testament which address the topics of how to build and operate churches as well as how to train and ordain clergy.
If you want an Old Testament basis for public prayer in the context of worship, read the second half of the book of Exodus and all of Leviticus. God is very clear in His wanting of us to engage in public as well as private worship.

If people want to pray at a graduation, I’d say that’s an appropriate occasion.
Congress should be impeaching and removing at least one a month from the bench. that is just the federal level. Each state should be doing the same for state judges.

I have - several times now. You need to stop reading it and start understanding it because your literalism shows you can quote the words but little else.
Still haven’t denied being an O-bot. Why is that? I’d think that question should be cleared up so we know who we are dealing with, don’t you? A simple “no I am not’ isn’t so hard...unless there’s a legal/political reason you can’t just say it.
While I would not be happy to hear a muslim lead muslim prayer, I am less happy to see out Constitutional rights being flagrantly violated like this.
My happiness as hearing a muslim lead prayer is secondary to the rights and freedoms granted by the Constitution. A muslim prayer clearly falls under the right to freely exercise their religion, whether I like it or not.
