Many states have eliminated this requirement for UE. It was a real PITA for businesses to have a stream of people coming in all day wanting their papers signed. Very time consuming.

There are an awful lot of those jobs out there that won’t hire you if they feel you are ‘overqualified’, though. I spent over a year out of work and was applying for any position I could physically do, but got that answer so many times that they would love to hire me, but I was just too overqualified.

Unemployment is an employer expense, not an employee expense.

That's true but people think they are owed it because they "paid in". I'd like to see unemployment compensation done away with altogether. If a person wants to insure themselves against unemployment, let them purchase their own insurance. The same goes for workman's compensation.
