LOS INDIOS - Border security is in question after an incident at a Valley international bridge. A convoy of Mexican soldiers crossed the border to shop. Agents say they didn't even have to go through a checkpoint.
The incident happened Saturday night at the Los Indios Free Trade Bridge. It raised a red flag for border security near San Benito.
The Mexican soldiers came to Bradys Duty Free Store in the middle of the bridge. It's on the U.S. side, but soldiers never passed through a port of entry checkpoint. About 25 soldiers armed with weapons shopped for about 15 minutes.
We hear some customers were concerned because of the recent border violence in Mexico. We learned this store location is in an unsecure spot on the border.
Customs officials issued a statement about the minor military incursion. "CBP field operations remain in constant communication with our counterparts from the Mexican side of the border and maintain a shared interest in keeping our mutual border secure; however, there are times when an incident such as this occurs."
Just last week a local (Michigan) cop was arrested for a few rounds of ammo found in his bags when he went to mexico on vacation.
Dang SS... I get the vapors when I see South Texas in the title cause he is the only FReeper who replies to my posts! To protect the innocent I can’t repeat what he says...
25 armed soldiers shopping. PPFFFFTTT
Umm No. I think they call that recon.
But hey, big sis says the borders are safe.
Ping!
At least we don’t lock people up for twenty years when they forget they have a bullet in their car.
At least this time they weren’t shooting!
“Raises issues about border security”???
What issue would that be? Like there is no enforcement on our side? Mexican soldiers wandering over our border is nothing new.
A couple of months ago, a Mexican helicopter flew over the border and hovered over a neighborhood in a south Texas town. No biggie. The US border patrol has spotted Mexican army hummers on our side of the Rio Grande. No biggie.
The folks in power in dc are not affected by any of this.
janet napolotano can run around and make all the statements she wants about the border being secure and their media dutifully repeats her statements. Complete jabberwocky.
What was really sick was seeing the acting president in El Paso ridiculing us that we are telling the feds to do their job. Not far from barak’s location is the city hall building on El Paso. It has several bullet holes from rounds fired in Juarez. Bullets don’t respect our borders either.
Another aside, when barak slinked into our state, the government of Mexico hoisted a Mexican flag about half the size of the football field to make sure it was visible for a long distance. After barak left, the flag came down.
Kind of an “in your face” action.
And barak just keeps on keeping on.
Must need all those illegals to vote for him in ‘12.
Sorry for the long winded rant, but this crap is so maddening. To watch our elected leaders not only ignore the problem, but actively work to make it worse is just sick.
Like Claire Wolfe said, “America is at that awkward stage. It’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.”
That's debatable.
Then it must be PAST time! :)
