Wow, you can see the cars lined up in the right lane as the tornado follows the river south, then as it crosses the bridge, look at the lanes, the far side, as the tornado exits the bridge, there is a semi laying down in the left lane
facebook friends are saying that the local hospitals have several hundred injuries, many houses down, that tornado did hit during rush hour as it went down the river, across the bridge, and down rte 91 a short bit, the streets of Springfield would have been filled with rush hour traffic.
The storm heading east as it is, means many other high population centers are being hit, worcestor, Boston, Framingham
I hope no one was in that semi...
We had some pretty active lightning and loud thunder and tuned in local news that started at 4pm and that tiny front was suddenly huge. Around Springfield one cell after another popped up.
How many tornadoes were there? I heard of one or two in Springfield, one in Monson, one in Worcester, 3-5 tornadoes?
Channel 7 Boston is still running videos and interviews.
to Bristol & Plymouth counties
West Springfield reports major damage along Rt. 5. Westfield MA is under a state of emergency, reports of no phone service or mower in many parts of the city.
That is from last weeks Oklahoma tornado outbreak.
But that was no semi. It was a ~40 ft. tractor/trailer (18 wheeler).
Lexington/Concord/Waltham area - heavy rains, thunder and lightning, but no tornadoes!
Didn’t shut down the PC, either...
I am not up there anymore, but I am paying attention!!
The 29 year old driver of that semi suffered a broken arm, but was otherwise OK. He gave TV interviews.
That video aired last week.....it was taken in Oklahoma.
ABC World News Tonight, 45 minutes ago in the Eastern Time Zone, showed coverage of the tornado ripping through Springfield, Massachusetts. It looked bad.
Here in Maine, the entire state is under a tornado watch.
One reported dead in west spfld. due to tree on car.
YIKES....Maine has tornadoes???
Amazing video.
I know it’s not funny, but I can’t get that They Might Be Giants song, “When Tornados Take Over the World” out of my head.
You got worse weather than I did, didn’t you, being north of here. Initial radar made it look to be a Flash Boom Bye. I don’t think I’ve seen cells grow so explosively. I don’t recall MA having such damaging twisters, either.
I may have grown a bit addled, being sixty; however, I’ve lived here all my life and I don’t recall EVER seeing a twister...
