The above is, of course, a joke, but, like all good humor, it is rooted in reality. According to a study conducted by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, illegal immigration costs the American taxpayer $113 billion per year, a monumental sum by any standards. Add the toll of human life and the fact that Homeland Security now admits having lost track of 6 million illegal immigrants, and the cost becomes staggering.
Rather than meet the challenge head on, President Obama chose to make his "Alligators in the moat" speech, wherein he both mocked

Sleeping like a baby at night, huh?! I know... SARC. Actually, they can lie, manipulate the numbers, low ball the actual estimates etc... but the problem will only get worse. That is what is so annoying. The problems of illegal immigration aren’t being discussed by either side.
