A real GENTLE-MAN and Gentleman indeed. His all too public fight with cancer sets a very high bar for the rest of us. To the end he was positive and cheerful while in the public eye. I join the rest of his fans in wishing the best for his family since Tony, himself, I am confident, is with the Lord.

Having had the pleasure of knowing Tony through his visits here at his Alma Mater, Davidson College, and through phone calls and e-mails as we bantered over a range of topics, I still never knew how bad the cancer had gotten until after his passing. As you stated, he always was positive and cheerful. I wish I had known that he was losing his battle so that I could have shared my feelings. But, he didn't want others to be burdened by his problems. I doubt I'll ever meet his match again in my life.
