because Muslim men can marry non-muslims. but, in Islam, a muslima is forbidden to. if she does, she is automatically cast out of Islam. (i got that directly from an Al-Azhar trained Imam. not a question of interpretation.)
...so, either she is an apostate. or he secretly converted.
