Having gone through management training at several big companies, and I can tell you this is what they teach as a communication method. It's drilled in. When you're going to criticise someone (partuclarly a subordinate), always start with a positive, then level the criticism.
WHEN Cain gets the nomination, he'll need the help of people like Rove, Krauthammer, and yes even establishment GOP members to get elected. Like it or not, that's just they way it is. It doesn't mean he should be all buddy-buddy with them, but going out of his way to make an enemy out of them isn't smart either.
Fair enough, that’s another (3rd) explanation.
Cain is a corporate (establishment) guy. That is kind of the point I’ve been trying to make here and there on threads.
There are tea party candidates who are combative toward the system and others who are not, who are more establishment / corporate.
Calling someone establishment / corporate is not the same as calling them a RINO. I haven’t looked extrememely closely at what Cain has to say, but I assume that it’s fairly standard low taxes, cut spending, limited constitutional government stuff. Not criticizing him on what he’s saying there.
