TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Pima County Superior Court Judge Deborah Bernini has postponed her decision on the warrant unsealing in the fatal SWAT shooting death case that left Jose Guerena, 26, dead.
Judge Bernini said during a hearing Tuesday afternoon that she needs to meet with Pima County Sheriff's Investigators to discuss why the records should remain sealed since information has already been released in the case. Mike Storie, attorney for Pima County SWAT and Christopher Scileppi, attorney representing the Guerena family have already spoken publicly about the case.
Judge Bernini hopes to have her final ruling made by the end of the week. She says there are options when it comes to making her final decision: keeping the warrants sealed, unsealing the records or unsealing the warrants with redaction.
Guerena, a former Marine, was killed May 5, after a SWAT team entered his home. Deputies said they were trying to serve a search warrant in a drug investigation. According to officials the SWAT team broke down the front door to find Guerena crouched in the hall, with an assault rifle pointed at them.
KGUN9 will have more on this story at 5:00 p.m.
“The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has once again taken the lead in local law enforcement innovations. In November 2004, the Department’s Special Operations Section undertook the daunting task of organizing the Pima Regional SWAT program. This is a collaborative effort of local law enforcement agencies coming together to provide improved and unsurpassed service to the communities they serve. The goal was to create one of the largest, most capable tactical team in the Country; this goal has been accomplished.”
Yeah, like releasing just part of the raid video, and leaking a bit out at time...
What's up with that?
The judge needs time to get with the police chief and DAs to go over their lies.
lol...Another week?
Lots of meetings in Pima County going on.
The whole thing needs another coat or two of white wash and then it takes time to make factual but fake paperwork. When they get done the guy will make Jeffery Dahmer look like a candidate for sainthood.
They need some time to prepare the citations and medals.
Taxpayers will pay over $10 million in this case. I’d attach this bill to local law enforcement...and the next election.
Yep...They'll have him dancing with the devil.
How much funding would they get from fedgov for something like this?
