PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (May 24, 2011) Members of the Pulaski County Tourism Board voted Tuesday evening to make a $10,000 donation to disaster relief in Joplin, provided that a legal review verifies that special non-tax funds maintained by the tourism bureau can be used for that purpose. Most of the tourism bureaus money comes from a special transient guest tax collected from people who stay in the countys hotels, motels and other lodging facilities and must be used to support local tourism. However, the tourism bureau also has additional money from a variety of sources that isnt subject to those limitations. I dont know that we can do it, I would like for us to give some consideration into whether we can pursue it I would like to make a donation to Joplin, either through their tourism bureau or through their chamber of commerce, to help, said Tourism Board Chairwoman Twyla Cordry. If that had been our community that had been devastated like that, think of how we would be.
