Chief of General Staff accepts findings from IDF probe which says gunfire that killed Ben Yosef Livnat was intentional, aimed at killing group of Jews who infiltrated religious site; no evidence that attack was planned.
Palestinian policemen deliberately opened fire at a group of Jews who infiltrated into Nablus last month to pray at Josephs Tomb, IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz concluded on Sunday following the military probe of the incident.
Ben-Yosef Livnat, z'l, 25, son of former Baltimorean Eva (Blumberg) Livnat, was fatally wounded when the Palestinian policemen opened fire on the group of Breslav hassidim. Four other worshipers were wounded.
The group illegally entered Nablus without firstly coordinating the visit with the IDF as stipulated by law. Nablus is Area A territory, under Palestinian control and therefore off limits to Israeli citizens. The four Palestinian policemen were immediately placed under arrest by the Palestinian Authority which is continuing to investigate the shooting.
Last week, the Defense Ministry official recognized Livnat as the victim of a terrorist attack enabling his family to receive compensation from the state.
The results of the IDF probe, released on Sunday, did not find evidence that the Palestinian policemen had planned the attack but did conclude that the gunfire was intentional and aimed at killing the group of Jews who had infiltrated into the area near the tomb. The PA policemen opened fire, Gantz said, without justification and when their lives were not in danger.
Gantz also weighed in on the terrorist attack in the settlement of Itamar in March during which two Palestinians infiltrated into a home and killed Udi and Ruth Fogel and three of their children. Gantz called the attack despicable and inhumane.
Gantz concluded that the Central Commands preparations at the time of the attack were in accordance with the assessment of the threat level in the West Bank and due to the fact that there was no concrete intelligence about the attack.
Gantz noted however that the security measures that were in place failed and ordered the Central Command to immediately implement necessary chances and to improve security in appropriate settlements to prevent future attacks.
INFILTRATED
INFILTRATED
There are no words
I would like to see the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and Jeruselem entirely occupied by Israel; it is there land given to them by the original Owner.
What's the "z'l" ?
"zachor l'tov" = remembered for good (in good deeds and memory)
>>Nablus is Area A territory, under Palestinian control and therefore off limits to Israeli citizens.
How long before parts of our own country become “Area A territory”?
duh. Of course they did.
duh. Of course they did.
Youre a pretty lousy cop if you fire your weapon unintentionally, arent you?
Indeed. So it is obvious he fired on purpose, but what could have possibly been the motive? Hmmmm..... Must have been that one of the evil Jooooooz! was trying to attack him or something and he fired in self defense. That makes sense. Muzzies never kill people in cold blood.
Kalifornia is already on the short list...
I know you are being facetious but other people would say this seriously. But this bit from the article would put such statements to lie.
Ben-Yosef Livnat, z'l, 25, son of former Baltimorean Eva (Blumberg) Livnat, was fatally wounded when the Palestinian policemen opened fire on the group of Breslav hassidim.
There is no mistaking this religious sect in their attire and manner. This sect is the only group in Israel that is exempt from mandatory military service because of their pacifist and religious prohibition to military service.
There is no way the Palestinians could have seriously considered these people as a physical threat.
So true.
Thank you
