That is back when American people took care of each other, whether they were CSA or USA!!! Some difference then and now!!!
I am old enough to remember those times. Like my Redneck Alabama Uncles working a farm for a black man who had broken a leg, in 1947. They worked together at other times such as butchering and canning times. They did it because it was the RIGHT thing to do.
