"AUSTIN, Texas — Gov. Rick Perry today ceremonially signed House Bill 15, which requires a woman to have a sonogram before electing to have an abortion to ensure she is fully informed before making such an impactful decision. The governor designated the measure an emergency item for the 2011 Legislative Session. He was joined by Sen. Dan Patrick and Rep. Sid Miller at the signing ceremony.

“Every life lost to abortion is a tragedy we all must work together to prevent, and I commend Rep. Miller and Sen. Patrick for their hard work on this significant legislation,” Gov. Perry said. “This important bill will ensure that every Texas woman seeking an abortion has all the facts about the life she is carrying, and understands the devastating impact of such a life-changing decision.”

It’s a good bill, not matter what you think about his presidential prospects.

The media and feminists have convinced a lot of not-so-bright women that this procedure is nothing more complicated than, say, getting a tattoo. At least they will realize what they’re doing with this bill.

The gov. is already dictating our medical.

If I’m wrong, please correct me but I think one can opt out of this procedure.

It will be paid for just like everything else.
I’m sure many here would be glad to help pay for it, if it saves a baby’s life.

Our local prolife womens crisis center has its own ultra sound machine. they can’t be that expensive. I’ll bet planned parenthood even has them.

A regular sonogram will not work in all cases, doctors would have to perform a transvaginal sonogram in some circumstances.

"Look at his record people."

Enlighten us!

It really sucks here in Texas and I can't take it anymore. With all the influx of people flocking to all the jobs and stuff, it is overwhelming. That and the new companies moving in, road and constructions jobs, the Eagle Ford oil field in South Texas boom etc...please enlighten us, and connect "Gov Big Hair" dismal record in Texas with...say YOUR plan or vision.

If you are not from Texas, you definitely will not like it here.

"Sure. But, what else do you want Gov't dictating to you medically? Also, who is gonna pay for this extra procedure?"

I see this as a much needed Moral step in the process until Roe v Wade is overturned. Sonograms will be paid as part of the medical testing process. Planned Parenthood will need to cover the cost and avoid abortions as soon as the patient understands that they have a choice to murder their baby or not. The sonograms will wake a LOT of people up. We need this bill in all 49 States, as well.

I've said for a while it will be Romney and Perry.

As for his record, he does fit the GOP perfectly on illegal immigration.

Perry to stick by law giving tuition breaks to illegal immigrants

Woman already know it's wrong, as well as the doctor. So we will end up pay for this procedure, and they will still get an abortion.

Morals don't come from Gov't, and nothing will get solved until people realize that.

Nobody cares about Perry. He’s yet another squishy RINO thrown up on the wall this week to see if he sticks.

Doesn’t a person have a legal right to refuse a medical procedure, which I also think may be radiation, and also unnecessary testing.

Also what part of Born...1950 in Paint Creek TX (Comment #3) is unclear in the concept of where he was born?

Good news. A step in the right direction, an example for other states to follow.
