Our government counted ketsup as a vegtable in the “free” school lunch program at one time.

I imagine islands of communism in the cities will thrive as long as the government can take food from people outside the cities. In a “state of emergency” Obammy can do what ever he wants to do to whomever he wants.

As we enter into a time of “global” food shortages, Obama has created the base of power and infrastructure to can take care of “his people.”

Reminds me of the good ole days of Stalin. But that is crazy! In a time of shortages, Obammy would never take control over food and then starve the people outside the cities like Stalin did!

Food seems to be the weapon of choice of all dictators throughout history. Create shortages and then accrue power by doling out the relief.

Yes, because Ketchup contains Tomato paste.

Except, the Tomato is a fruit! It was “deemed” a vegetable by, you guessed it, the government - in order to increase tax revenue. Can’t make this stuff up.

Ketchup as a vegetable? Yes, I remember that one, my father knew some of the people involved. What happened was there was a Federal requirement that subsidized lunches serve vegetables. The problem was the kids weren’t eating them. Another requirement came down, to reduce the amount of waste. Imagine a couple of bureaucrats under a deadline trying to figure out how to make the kids eat their vegetables:

“Well, ketchup is made from tomatoes. That’s a vegetable, right? At least they’ll eat it.”

“Come on, nobodies gonna believe that!”

“At least it’ll confuse them long enough for us to think of a better one.”

“Let’s do it.”

Then the media got wind of it, and the rest is history.

And now you know - the REST of the story!
