You may like the idea of being sealed off from Mexico, but the fact is that a lot of trade comes from there. The object of the corrider was, ultimately, to gain a Pacific Coast port for Texas. It would also make the DFW area a major, major rail center.

Conservatives would have much less of a problem with the TTC if it was handled in a truly open manner instead of this BS about contracts between the state and and a European company being no-bid or the terms being held private for 50 years or more due to "competitive" reasons. It didn't help that you had people working for Cintra and getting them cozied up to the state, then taking a state job on Perry's staff, then going back to lobbying for Cintra, or Giuliani's law firm representing Cintra while Perry was campaigning for Giuliani, etc.

When you are going to take over half a million acres of land from Texans, they deserve to know everything about the process, and they deserve to have a process that is not so tangled up and tailor-made to benefit Perry's friends, especially if you are a Governor who talks about transparency.

The TTC was handled like it was something straight out of Chicago or something the Democrats dreamed up during the time they ruled Texas.

I agree with your assessment. But, sad to say, the digging of the Erie Canal was handled prettyy much the same way by DeWitt Clinton and his bunch. The transcontinetal railroads were petty much cesspools of corruption, and the French attempt to dig the Panama Canal is as famous for its corruption as for its failure. I blame it on Original sin. The lust for power and money is a major factor in every human enterprise. Even Solomon’s building of the Temple was not on the up and up.
