Declaring, "OK, Amen," Republican Gov. Rick Perry signed the voter identification bill Friday that Republicans have pushed for the past several sessions.

"This is what democracy is all about," Perry said. "It's our duty to ensure that elections are fair, beyond reproach."

Some Dallas area lawmakers, including freshmen Reps. Cindy Burkett, R-Mesquite, and Kenneth Sheets, R-Dallas, stood beside Perry as he signed the measure that requires voters to show a photo ID before casting a ballot.

I think its great and we also did it here in GA but my continuing question is whatever happened to showing your voter registration card to vote? I carry mine in my wallet.

A single person could register under several different names and carry multiple voter registration cards. Photo ID is matched against existing registration rolls so it serves the role of the voter registration card. Anyone wishing to cheat under this scheme would have to produce multiple photo IDs with different names. This is not as likely to occur.

A Texas Voter Registration card is about 3.5 by 5 inches.

When you vote they stamp it with that year.

It is supposed to prevent voter fraud but illegals (and others) claim they are citizens and are allowed to vote without it under some conditions.

It’s a start but there needs to be more. It will give a boost to small illegal ID businesses. Any illegal can get a driver’s license. Any illegal can bring in an ID card from any state. Sure, like don’t we all know birth certificates can be forged. Big woo, they can bring in their food stamp or utility bill envelope. This really doesn’t nothing except exclude the really stooooopid illegals.

Types of acceptable ID:

- a driver’s license or personal identification card issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) or a similar document issued by an agency of another state, regardless of whether the license or card has expired;

- a form of photo identification that establishes the voter’s identity;

- a birth certificate or other document confirming birth that is admissible in a court of law and establishes the voter’s identity;

- U.S. citizenship papers or a U.S. passport;

- official mail addressed to the voter from a government entity;

- a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check, or other government document that shows the name and address of the voter;

- or any other form of identification prescribed by the secretary of state.

“A Texas Voter Registration card is about 3.5 by 5 inches.”

Does everything have to be bigger in Texas? :)

If you’re on the roll and you have a positive ID, it doesn’t really matter. I like to carry mine too, but it’s the DL that matters.

It’s INEVITABLE that a leftist federal judge will overturn it. But even so, that judges order should be IGNORED by Texas officials.
