The inventory of private-sector jobs in Texas increased by 732,800 between April 2001 and the same month this year, according to an On Numbers analysis of new federal employment data.

“Though the Hispanic Republicans fell in line with the broader Republican viewpoint on this issue (voter ID), Pena said that on other issues, they are working behind the scenes to quash objectionable legislation.
“We don’t want to embarrass the members, but if a bill we don’t agree with gets past committee, we will speak up,” Pena said.
Pena said, for example, that he is opposing legislation championed by some Republicans that would end birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.”
