I don’t understand the point you’re trying to make.
I think what Gene Eric is saying is that, if this Marine was TRULY prepared, there would have been a lot of dead SWAT members piled up in his front hallway.
One can think they are prepared by having a gun at the ready - but are not truly, fully prepared. Otherwise this Marine may still be alive. Or at least have gone down fighting. But - his wife and child are alive.
And - if this HAD been a group of thugs as I believe the Marine thought, he probably would have been able to kill some and deter all of them.
I do work at a place sometimes where I can hear the training for a specialized police force. The various types of automatic weapon fire is amazing and on-going. They are getting LOTS of training with heavy weapons. I used to comment “I’m sure glad those guys are on our side!”.
For several years now it has become “I sure hope those guys are on our side.”
