So, if despite our efforts to get Palin, Cain, or Bachman to be the nominee , Romney wins the GOP nomination, does that mean FR will be shut down?

I'm wondering what this means for the future of FR. I remember the Rudy purge, which needed to happen, but McCain supporters were allowed to post pro-McCain threads during the 2008 election.

I’d say McCain may have survived because of his pick of Palin as his running mate. Then, having won the primaries, he’s what we had to go with. I know that’s what did it for me. I voted for Palin; not McCain.

OTOH, if Romney (God help us) get’s the nod this time, I doubt there’d be another similar transfer of support, regardless of who he selects as a running mate. Once burned is enough. If he can’t figure that out then he’s dumber than I think.

For the sake of the country you had better hope Romney doesn’t win the nomination.

“....Romney wins the GOP nomination, does that mean FR will be shut down?”

I really wouldn’t worry about that. If Romney couldn’t win last time I don’t see how he wins this time, other than being “next!”

In prior years being “next” might have done it but not this time. (I hope, anyway.)

Plus, let us not forget WHY he didn’t win last time, the Evangelicals hate him. I’m not qualified to discuss why they hate him, but they do, they won’t vote for him and you can’t win the Republican nomination without at least a whole bunch of those voters.

In a way it is too bad, I think Romney would have been a better candidate than McCain and undoubtedly a much better pres than Obama, maybe esp. in these bad economic times.

However, we would never have had this conservative/tea party resurgence without the axis of dem evil: Obama/Pelosi/Reid, so that is the sterling silver lining to the cloud of their reign. (LOL, homophonic pun right there!)

I see Romney, like Giuliani, as a man whose time has come and gone.

In that event, third party.
whatever conservative is handy.

I voted Alan Keyes in 2008.

I made the right choice. The shock of the Obama Reid Pelosi agenda is pulling the country to the right and the MSM is collapsing even faster than before.

Now is not the time fo compromise.

Yer reading a lot into the statement you are responding to then is there.

That's like those leftists that said Rush wouldn't have anything to talk about when Bush beat Gore. Straw man then, and now.

Free Republic will continue until this Country is restored to the Constitutional Republic it was intended to be.

Plus as Buzz Lightyear said: And beyond!

“So, if...Romney wins the GOP nomination, does that mean FR will be shut down?”

I would think Jim and FR would then concentrate their efforts on offices other than the presidency. That’s what many disgruntled conservatives did in ‘08. It might actually work out very well, as ‘12 looks like a cycle in which conservative gains in congress and state races could be extended.

There were no McCain posts allowed.

The posts allowed were for Sarah’s dad.

The difference is subtle but it’s there.

A: No, FR won’t shut down, just the republican party and the country.

Yeah, what’s to become of us that almost don’t care anymore?

Like my wife and I, we’re not out there campaigning for Romney or Giuliani, but we can’t accept Ron Paul, Palin, Cain or Bachmann, either.

As a matter of fact, she doesn’t like anyone that’s running. She says she’s staying home. This is the least interested that I’ve seen her since 1996 when we both stayed home. I am not real excited, either. I despise candidates like Romney and Giuliani, but it’s hard to get excited about Reality TV stars, MILFesotans, Conspiracy Theorists and virtually unknown CEOs.
