Howdy you all! Well done TCH and thanks for my ping, metmom. When I last left this thread, I think it was under 500 posts...lol. I am happy my close friend penelopesire survived her inquisition! Pen is one of our very best conservatives FReepers and I know her in person.
I took yesterday off --- the *grate* Sarah Palin news overwhemed me...lol. Actually, my little, historic town with the military park goes all out for Memorial Day and volunteers make sure that every Civil War grave [17,077, of which 12,909 are unknown] receives a flag. The other 1,280 graves get a flag also, and they're from Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, and the Korean War. I can't do that, because of the bending over, but I helped with my street. Looks wonderful and properly patriotic. Our weather is beautiful with just a slight breeze so every porch has a flag waving ever so slightly. It's enough to bring tears mine eyes.

I wonder if TCH was my 5th grade teacher. She gave us almost that exact same speech, but on a 5th grade level, and without the political labels. I’ve tried over the years to remember her name, but I’ll always remember the lessons she passed on to us. She taught us a lot about civic responsibility, and our proud heritage. She had a way of telling it that made it really sink in.

That sounds like a wonderful town you live in. We recently moved, so this will be our first Memorial Day in our new home. I don’t know what events are scheduled here, but I’m pleased to see flags, flags, flags, everywhere.

I wish a blessed Memorial Day weekend to all.

Howdy you! I bet your little town is a GREAT place for memorial day with the historic military park there. I LOVE that place..it’s so beautiful! You guys have been through so much the last few months with the floods and it’s nice to know that the community there is pulling out all the stops for our fallen heros without missing a beat. Kudos to your community’s spirit, self reliance, grit and determination!

Thanks so much for the support post too. It’s was touch and go there for a bit....lol...but perfectly understandable in alot of ways. No more vanities for me....LOL. I hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday!

HUGS,

Pen
