The National Traffic Highway Safety Association expects to have a decision by the end of the year on whether all new vehicles will be required to have 'event data recorders' installed.
Known as 'black-boxes' the recorders collect vehicle data in the moments leading up to during, and after a crash. Unlike aircraft 'black-boxes' the vehicle data recorders do not make audio recordings.

Soon, a guy wont be able to take a wizz in the woods without the event being recorded. Our new government IS efficient! You can relieve that pressure on your bladder and make an editorial statement about the powers that be all at the same time!

A perfect Black Market will araise: altering or deactivating the software in the black box. Theyll probably outsource the work to India which means 65% of the time theyll be faulty anyway. But no worse than the originals cause that's what the OEMs did too....

Keepin' the good ol'workhosres running in their face is the best protest(& it's not that hard, a little knowledge & elbow grease keeps going to at least 500,000).
Plus , as you get better at it you can customize your ride to your liking even better than the new crap that's really being spurted out souly to enhance some porkers bottom line.

Dear Impeachable scum government politicians and unaccountable regulators. I will either disable, remove or otherwise ruin this box. I will not allow you to track me, or anything else and constantly invade my privacy with your ever bigger brother eyes.

These “black Boxes” are ALREADY in modern cars. Have been since about the model year 2000.

Unlike aircraft 'black-boxes' the vehicle data recorders do not make audio recordings. Yet.

"That's only 125 days .... ?"
...probably not bad for a small gas engine (13 horse). We'll only use it for about a half hour once every few days. PV (solar) works for the rest. In two or three years, we'll probably build a PV power plant for a slower well pump (no batteries necessary with cistern water storage instead). I hear the Grundfos pumps for that are pretty good. After that, the generator will only be for arc welding once in a while.

In two or three years, we'll probably build a PV power plant for a slower well pump In the oil patch, those long-stroke pump jacks typically are driven by simple engines that run on natural gas and only hit one or two licks per RPM. The gas source is casinghead gas (co-produced and evolving naturally off the oil; it also contains evaporated liquids which are sometimes recovered separately by refrigeration units, or can be burned in the prime mover). If you're in the right part of the country to access natural gas from e.g. the Wolfcamp Shale or another shale formation. You wouldn't need to do all the fancy horizontal drilling -- enough comes out of the shale to be a real nuisance to drilling operators drilling on down to deeper objectives, but just about right for your purposes -- if you're in an area where the Barnett, Eagleford, or Wolfcamp is reachable easily with water-well equipment you could lease, you might look into it; after all, if it's under your property, it's your gas. And if you get too much gas flow and pressures start to build, well, you can connect to your gas utility and run it into their system -- making your meter go backwards. People have done that.

Fry those effers in a few minutes. Fail. They will make the black-box function part of the computer that runs your car. You won't be able to disable it and still have the car run.

Thanks! That looks like a great tip for anyone who has a shale formation that's not far down. I wish that were feasible for a resident here, but it's likely very much deeper in my area (near a mile). Drilling only for water is overpriced here (tourism, retirees, Rockies).
That is one excellent idea, though, for anyone who's in a better place for it.

I haven’t had that problem. I replaced the front axle for 75 bucks and changed the tranny fluid which IS a definite requirement for these guys every 50,000. Timing and hoses every 100,000.

Putting tires on it is what gets me. It needs a couple in front plus an alignment. I’ll go ahead and do it. I may keep this guy up just for the antique plates alone. LOL!

Lucky dog. My sister had a push-button dodge. It got left at a grocer in Great Falls in 1979.
