Harry Reid, Rand Paul’s Patriot Act showdown goes public
Yahoo News ^ | 26 May 2011 | Rachel Rose Hartman

A fight over the extension of the Patriot Act played out on the Senate floor yesterday--and things got personal for Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

Paul chose to rise on the Senate floor in front of a national audience to give Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) a real piece of his mind.

"I rise in response to a scurrilous accusation," Paul said. "I've been accused of wanting to allow terrorists to have weapons to attack America. To be attacked of such a belief when I'm here to discuss and debate the constitutionality of the Patriot Act is offensive. I find it personally insulting. And I think it demeans the body. It demeans the Senate body and the people that we can't have an intelligent debate over the constitutionality of this."

Gutter scum Reid slinging crap to cover his denial of Constitutional protections by way of the misnamed Patriot Act he wants to renew. The act permits sifting to personal information of any American citizen by government agencies without the necessity of judicial review and approval. It seems Reid's terrorist paranoia extends to every living and deceased American. This man is a danger to himself and others. A looney bin should be his immediate residence.

“It seems Reid’s terrorist paranoia”

I think it’s insurrectionist, not terrorist, that keeps him up at night. He’s old enough to recall the Battle of Athens Tennesee (or McMinn Battle).

I’m glad that Rand Paul stood up for this, but I really wish the Republicans and Bush hadn’t pushed this through and sold it back when the PATRIOT Act was first introduced. At this point, there are too many companies making too much money from related contracts and they are probably lobbying/bribing a lot of members of Congress over this.

“Radicalized American terrorists”, what is missing?

“It demeans the Senate body and the people that we can’t have an intelligent debate over the constitutionality of this.”

That was the reason the they named it the Patriot act. You can’t be a Patriot and oppose it. The names Patriot Act, Homeland Security makes me think of several oppressive states and especially one that the leaders name began with an a.

All we need is Evita singing Don’t Cry for Me America. We haven’t had the military takeover yet. Bush was an enabler.

Between the TSA and BATF, along with some paramilitary SWAT Teams (like those in Pima County that gunned down the Marine), we’re not too far off.

And the names are all too Orwellian.

Paul and his daddy sound like harry reed back in 2005..LMAO

Senate Minority Leader Reid: “We killed the Patriot Act.” December 2005

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBP91gvs8wI

In light of the terrorist bombing plot of airliners between Britain and the U.S. that was foiled, with American help using our NSA terrorist monitoring program, it’s important in the days before the 2006 Congressional elections to recall how Democrats would handle the war.

Senator Reid brags to cheering Democrats in December 2005 that they “killed the Patriot Act” another of those tools which have been so effective in keeping Americans safe.

The Washington Times has a news story from this period with more background: http://www.washtimes.com/national/20...3708-4670r.htm

Which plot are you talking about and how would that justify allowing non-warrant access to the list of licensed American gun owners.

And you have police departments rolling out license plate scanners and infrared cameras in their police cars.

I'm really glad I won't be around in 40 years.

I remember Dingy Harry standing up and saying that. Of course, now that Obama is in the WH, it’s perfectly fine.

That's right, and the paul-istinians still act like the liberals did back then. Like a government arm of the code pinko echo chamber. LMAO

That’s just peachy. I might still be around in 40 years, but I sure wish I had been born earlier. I don’t even want to be around what’s happened in the last five years, closer and closer to full tyranny.

And most people don’t even recognize it.

Then again, even if you do, there’s no place to escape to and not much that can be done. At least under Stalin and others, there used to be the bright beacon of the U.S., if by the grace of God, you could escape.

So then you are happy about allowing non-warrant access to the list of licensed American gun owners. Thought so.
