Maps, land and history: Why 1967 still matters

Israeli soldiers patrol along the border fence between the Golan Heights and Syria on May 20

On the website of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs there is a map -- with a message. The map itself is a basic display of how regional borders looked before the Six Day War in 1967. The message is in the distances drawn from those borders to major Israeli cities.

For example, it's noted that the distance from what was in 1967 the armistice line with Jordan to the Israeli city of Netanya on the Mediterranean was 9 miles; to Beersheeba, 10 miles; and to Tel Aviv, 11 miles. The city of Ashkelon was 7 miles from the edge of the Gaza Strip, then under Egyptian rule.

The point is a simple one: Israel was virtually impossible to defend; any aggressor would try to cut it in half. Read this story in Arabic

That's just what the Arab armies tried to achieve in 1967. On the eve of the war, the Egyptian newspaper al Akhbar noted: "Under the terms of the military agreement signed with Jordan, Jordanian artillery, coordinated with the forces of Egypt and Syria, is in a position to cut Israel in two at Qalqilya, where Israeli territory between the Jordan armistice line and the Mediterranean Sea is only 12 kilometres (7 miles) wide."

It's a point that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed at his White House meeting with President Barack Obama last week.

I knew this would happen - Obama proposes suicidal crap from hell that is triggering ME war, and here comes CNN with its cadre of murderous Leftist writers soft-spinning the concept into reasonable-sounding baby food for their millions of liberal idiots.

What vermin some vermin are.

Somebody should post the link that shows Andrea Mitchell whining that Natanyahu lectured Obama on the realities of the Jewish state of Israel.

The fact that Israel has survived as they have, surrounded by millions of people who wish them dead, I believe qualifies as a miracle. There is not enough weaponry in the world that can protect them so completely. Only an Almighty God can do it and He will protect them as long as they remain faithful to Him and Him alone.

I believe you can substitute the USA for Israel above and the same holds true.

I am utterly amazed and surprised that CNN is not talking about handing back Texas and California to Mexico or the Philippines, etc or the entire East Coast back to England, or most of the West back to the Native Americans.... :duh: /s =.=

This is a good, balanced article by CNN. It accurately sets forth Israel’s concerns with returning to anything like the 1967 boundries, and notes that these concerns have been shared by dovish leaders as well, such as Yitzhak Rabin.

WHY 1967 STILL MATTERS

1967 matters because the world saw God give Israel a supernatural victory.

"In addition, Netanyahu has also said he would insist on keeping Israeli forces in the valley that divides the West Bank from Jordan, even after the establishment of a Palestinian state, as a safeguard against rocket attacks."

Money shot: Lots of honey around this sliver of death.

Remember that day well.
I was on the very southern border of Turkey and my roommate had just been captured and was in jail in Beirut (USAF).

I was supposed to be at a UN site in Jordan that first day but the Israelis bombed the site perimeters then sent messages (I don’t know thru what media) to abandon the site in 45 minutes because they were going to totally level the site. 45 minutes later the site was destroyed and nobody was harmed.

We listened to Shortwave Radio and all the chatter.
The Israelis were everywhere and the Arab nations were all talking how they were winning every battle.

The Israelis won that war based on the strategy of “Water”.
They were all supplied with (10 liters) of H2O every day and the Arabs were only provided what they could carry at any given time which meant they were lucky to have a liter/day.

When the Israelis came upon some Arabs, they won quickly due to thirst, not bullets.
Having good strategist also helped.
The Arabs also failed by overconfidence and self pride.

It seems to me that the lesson to be learned is that you shouldn't pick fights with the Israelis.

A good definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome. The Arabs keep attacking Israel and keep losing land in the process.

If the world really wanted peace in the region, they would get rid of the Arabs and not the Israelis.

Easy solution. Take the Pali map stage three, pick it up frm the left side and flip it over into jordan, now do the same with gaza. Egypt gets gaza jodan gets the rest of the Palis. And Syria gets crAp
