The hand-wringing over the Republican presidential field has not abated much since Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels announced he would not be seeking the GOP nomination, but a new name might soon be entering the fray, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, the guitar-playing, soul-searching libertarian from Michigan.
Mr. McCotter has told Politico hes seriously considering a run and will make his decision in the next two weeks. Never heard of him? Well, heres a McCotter primer:
His jams on a Fender Telecaster emblazoned with red, white and blue , although he has been known to pick up a Stratocaster as well. The conservative magazine Human Events posted a video of him musing on NATOs military actions in Libya as he played blues licks, a Mountain Dew on the desk over his shoulder.

He’s even more of a long shot than Herman Cain, but could you IMAGINE the smack-down he’d give in a debate with Barry? Him plus Cain on a ticket might just be my dream ticket...
Considering he’s from Michigan, he may not have had much of a choice.

Having watched him guest on several shows on TV he quickly became my favorite congressman. Extremely cerebral, with a dry style that kind of reminds me of WFB at times. He would almost certainly have my vote if he runs.
While I would like to see my Congressman and fellow CC Shamrock in the White House, I would hate to lose him in DC if his bid is unsuccessful.
Agreed. My congressman had the good fortune of having surgery on the day of that vote but said he would have probably voted for it because most of his constituents wanted it.
He’s bald, goofy looking, loves to rock n roll, conservative with a libertarian bent, and has a dry sense of humor often used to humiliate liberals.
He’s ME! Well, a thin, Congressman version of me, but me, nonetheless.
McCotter is AWESOME. Not sure he’s in a position to run a winning presidential campaign, but he would would be a great voice in the debate. The more conservative voices, the better early in the process.
This is good news...always liked McCotter.
The list of Crawl-over-broken-glassers:
Alan West
The desirables:
Herman Cain
Michele Bachmann
Thad McCotter
John Bolton
The holdyernosers:
Pawlenty
Santorum
Palin
Roy Moore
The nowayinhellers:
Newt
Rudy
Mitt
Huntsman
Roemer
Paul
Perry
Johnson
.
Well I call the “The nowayinhellers” the “get piss drunk and wear a gas maskers” but I agree otherwise...but I’d put Cain and West in the “broken glass” category.
I’d love to see him run!
Daniels and Huck out, Newt newtered, Cain and McCotter in?
Suddenly the field looks a bit better.
Two questions. Why is Allen West your only "crawl over broken-glasser"? Why do you place Sarah Palin in the "holdyernoser" group?
I’d like to see him run for the Michigan Senate held by Debbie Stabanaw.
He is both of those things, but he has the charisma of a no. 2 pencil.
Far be it from me to tell you what to think, but I think Jon Huntsman should be bright red.
I like McCotter, but I doubt he’s running. I’d like to see him change his mind and run against my dumb as a box of rocks senator. Debbie Stab-me-now.
Thanks.
a: only guy with significant, heat of battle military experience & command that separates him from the other desirables. First, most important job of prez is CIC.
b: several liberal tendencies. Poor speaker.
Plays a tele?? He’s got my vote right there.
