(CA Gov) Jerry Brown calls prison ruling a reason for taxes
Sacramento Bee ^

A week after increased revenue estimates looked to frustrate Gov. Jerry Brown's case for higher taxes, a Supreme Court ruling requiring California to reduce its prison population may help.

Brown said in a prepared statement that shifting certain offenders from state prisons to county facilities, as Brown proposes in his budget, is "key" to implementing the court's order today that California reduce its prison population by more than 30,000 inmates.

"We must now secure full and constitutionally guaranteed funding to put into effect all the realignment provisions," he said, a reference to his bid for a ballot measure extending higher taxes.

3.5 more years of using any effing headline as an excuse to plead for higher taxes in the highest taxed state in the union.

I wonder how many prison spaces would be available if:

1) prisoners in the country illegally were deported
2) money spent sending illegals to school and other welfare programs was spent on prisons.

Just curious.

Fewer prisoners == more taxes.

Sun comes up == more taxes; Sun goes down == more taxes

How about executing the ones on death row too? That should free up some premium cells.

A person I work with knows a doc and he said he is fed up with all the BS the MH Dept requires. Look at the bright side. They can be transfered to a state MH facility and kill the staff all they want.

Pink underwear and jump suits, PB and jelly sandwiches, 10 hour work days at hard labor or no eats, bicycle powered TV in the communal dayroom with educational programs, etc. Bet the prison population would go down quickly.

I don't live in California, a union shop, but my guess is that any new taxes will not go to build infrastructure but rather to pay for more union guards and administrators and they will set up temporary solutions (like Maricopa county's tent city). Joe Arpaio Celebrates Tent City Birthday by Unveiling "Section 1070." Guess Who Gets to Live There?

However the public sector union employees never seem to be temporary.

Is what’s going on really any different than Mubarak releasing the prisoners in order to demonstrate what life without his government would be like? If the government actually gave a damn about public health and safety, they would re-allocate money available to give the prisoners reasonable conditions (I’m not saying color TV and a sauna, but I’ve read what the conditions are like in CA prisons and they really are unreasonable for in a western country).

When money in the government is short, the things that get cut first are always the things that will be highly visible and hurt the most. The idea, of course, is to get the people to beg to have their taxes raised (which, these days, is a pretty good deal for the substantial minority that don’t actually PAY taxes).

Death Race 2012. Let the prisoners build out Chevy volts and sell air time on MTV. Give the cars and the drivers crazy ass names. And yeah definitely have chicks from the female detention center ride shot gun.

Make it more interesting, they get to Choose a random Drug Ladies u and slime today's remaining races are going to be made classic. Each driver will be blind folded and will have then opportunity to either take whatever you choose or stay sober and you get a stripped down volt. Just run races until you are left with teethe worst of the bunch. wussies(rehab) and People who were extras in the chainsaw massacre, Don't call call it a tax. Call it an entertainment fee and show it globally. Win- Win

Actually, it’s not.

It’s time to A) get rid of the judges who made this stupid ruling, B) build a border fence, with or without federal help or approval, and C) round up and deport all illegals in California, beginning with those now in prisons and jails.

D) dump Brown and the rest of the Demwits in California politics.

As long as Kalifornia has the resources to maintain their Bureau of Firearms and continues to prosecute unConstitutional firearms laws, it proves to me that there is no need for new taxes.
