Caution: It is vitally important not to make connections. When you see pictures of rubble like this weeks shots from Joplin, Mo., you should not wonder: Is this somehow related to the tornado outbreak three weeks ago in Tuscaloosa, Ala., or the enormous outbreak a couple of weeks before that (which, together, comprised the most active April for tornadoes in U.S. history). No, that doesnt mean a thing.
It is far better to think of these as isolated, unpredictable, discrete events. It is not advisable to try to connect them in your mind with, say, the fires burning across Texas fires that have burned more of America at this point this year than any wildfires have in previous years. Texas, and adjoining parts of Oklahoma and New Mexico, are drier than theyve ever been the drought is worse than that of the Dust Bowl. But do not wonder if theyre somehow connected.
If you did wonder, you see, you would also have to wonder about whether this years record snowfalls and rainfalls across the Midwest resulting in record flooding along the Mississippi could somehow be related. And then you might find your thoughts wandering to, oh, global warming, and to the fact that climatologists have been predicting for years that as we flood the atmosphere with carbon we will also start both drying and flooding the planet, since warm air holds more water vapor than cold air.
Its far smarter to repeat to yourself the comforting mantra that no single weather event can ever be directly tied to climate change.

Childish prattle.
what a dope
Poor Bill - still hanging on to the delusion...
For instance, consider these alternative hypothesis:
* overly ambitious fire suppression, combined with logging prohibitions leads to record forest fires;
* walling river channels in with dikes (levees) increases the likelihood of more damaging floods downriver;
* building in flood plains increases the likelihood of property damage;
* building major cities below sea level, increases the likelihood of flood damage;
* and so on.
The heartland has always been the focal point for tornadoes just like California endures its earthquakes and the Southeast their hurricane season.
Climate change and global warming have nothing to do with them.
These things are completely natural in and of themselves.
They are not man made.
I stand by the tested axiom, “Bush’s Fault”.
More likely that God is not happy with our country and its leaders. I hesitate to say so, because one never knows. But a country can be punished for the sins of its leaders or its people, and history suggests that it’s not just the guilty who suffer.
The absolute garbage that passes for “journalism” these days.
I remember 1974 being bad for tornadoes. I guess “climate change” was back then, too, huh? I mean, back then these Luddites were claiming we were in for an ice age.
Bill has his penis pump wrapped too tight around his neck.
Then liberals came up with 'climate change' - but there's no theory to go with it. Just 'give us grant money and power' if the weather's colder, hotter, more violent, less violent, wetter, dryer etc... They know their boys in the press would run with it - and that's the ONLY part they were right about...
People see what they want to see. They (we) can see the exact same set of facts and come away with completely different conclusions. Global warming alarmists depend on this human characteristic to further their agenda.
Nothing more complicated than that.
Ditto. I remember the news reports in 1974 talking about the tornadoes like it was the end of the world. There are about 100 million more Americans than there were about forty years ago. That means any giant storm will cause more damage and fatalities just by the additional numbers of people living in areas that were formerly unpopulated or had smaller populations. The warmists never miss a chance to connect any weather event with agw.
Henry II was misquoted. What he really said was, “Will no one rid me of these meddlesome climate change fanatics?”
He said the cause of the extreme weather is the fact that the temperatures in the 25,000 to 35,000 ft level are the coldest he has ever seen and that our weather is a result of the clash between the cold and the arm air.
Too bad the WPO can't be bothered to discuss the subject with someone who lives in the real world of weather.
It is only a few miles from DC to Bastardi’s office.
We aren’t allowed to call record breaking cold weather and snow storms proof against globalist warming, so no fair calling tornadoes proof of global warming. We need an even playing field.
"It is far better to think of these as isolated, unpredictable, discrete events."
Yeah, I get the sarcasm...except that I see this same behavior from you liberals every time there's a case of sudden jihad syndrome.
Not as comforting as repeating to yourself that HAARP has nothing to do with weather control.
