As a private pilot myself, your story was chilling. Thanks for sharing. When I read of weather related accidents of small aircraft, I always imagine the pilot and passengers last moments. Equally chilling.

Thanks for not writing me off as a complete idiot. Unfortunately, I am one of those people who has learned more through my own mistakes than those of others. My wife also has a very good memory and doesn't let me forget my screw ups. I believe that most aviation “accidents” have a combination of contributing factors which is why I brought this up. It actually was an epiphany for me nearly 20 years ago when this occurred. It sounds almost stupid now, but I realized that it wasn't just one thing that causes a pilot to lose control... it is everything combined. In almost every “accident” I read about I usually see this convergence of factors. There usually isn't one simple explanation and I doubt whether there is one here either.
