Connecticut is forging ahead with a new two-tiered driver's license system despite questions about whether a federal law tightening identity requirements will actually be enforced amid a revolt by more than 20 states.
Under the new system, Connecticut will begin offering an "identity-verified" version of its regular driver's license to comply with the controversial federal initiative to increase the security of government-issued IDs.

Those who want to continue using their driver's license at airport security checkpoints should brace for some inconvenience. Instead of just taking a new photo at DMV, motorists will have to stand in line with a birth certificate and other documents in hand then wait for the clerk to verify they're authentic.

Undocumented immigrants once could legally obtain a driver's license in Connecticut. Seymour explained that a driver's license was not originally intended to be an identification document, but rather a document that affirmed that its holder could drive and knew the rules of the road. Years ago they did not even include a photo.
The driver's license evolved over time, especially after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Beginning in 2002, applicants had to prove they were in the country legally to get a license. But undocumented immigrants who got their licenses before then have been able to renew them.
"We do not check legal status on renewals," Seymour said.
That will not change under the new system, Seymour said. Undocumented immigrants who simply ask to renew a regular license the type that will have "not for federal identification" stamped on it will be allowed to do so.

For the good of the republic, you will need to prove your identification, complete with: name, SSN, address, bank account and credit card numbers.
After all, only terrorist and criminals have reason to withhold any information requested.
Are you dealing with plantation issues?

Actually, I had to register. Mr. Robinson knows who I am and, I believe, at least one credit card number. No big deal.

No credit card numbers are required to register for FR. It’s your memory that’s failing and creating this illusion of security for you.
I guess that means you've never contributed.
I agree with you. We're falling ever further into a police state and most people think that, well, if you don't do anything wrong, you've got nothing to fear.
Once that may have been true, but that was before the government started making virtually everything "wrong".
Real ID. Conn has produced a Real ID compliant drivers license.
Real ID came out of the 9/11 commission, then out of Congress in 2005, without too much controversy
But gradually, opposition grew until, as the article points out 20 states were opposed.
Then it came to a head in 2007 with the immigration reform legislation. Real ID linked to employee verification linked to a data base created by merging the DHS, SS, and IRS databases.
That all subsided in Dec 2007 when they said Real ID was going to be "delayed"....................
Has FR stopped accepting checks?
No, its right on the link that says pay with Paypal, check or CREDIT CARD.
