What kind of research? Let me help. I was insured with State Farm for over 30 years. My premiums rose from around 500 to over 4,000 per year. During that time, they introduced a separate coverage for hurricanes that had a separate deductible; 2% of the face value of my policy. Immediately after the storms, my neighbors had their claims drastically reduced by the adjuster claiming that the damage was from "wind driven water", thereby excluded from coverage. Of course, the wind driven water was only introduced to their interior AFTER the roof blew off but that was merely a technicality.

Yep - Florida's higher property taxes, as well as those insurance costs, are what have ruled out future relocation to that state.
It amazes me that California is actually lower than Florida in the tax department. But once Jerry Brown figures out how to kill off Prop 13 caps, that'll end...

Thanks, when I get back from Kandahar soon I’ll sit down with my insurance agent and ask these questions about the coverage.
If you think of anything else, please let me know.
I’ve been in Florida from Minnsota only since 2007 and I’m not up on much of the insurance games.
