Grand Jury Declines To Indict Sen. Williams (Head-On Crash Killed Brianna 'Brie' Gomez)

CHANNING, Texas -- A Texas grand jury on Wednesday declined to indict Colorado State Sen. Suzanne Williams in a car accident that killed a pregnant woman in December.

KVII-TV reported Wednesday morning that the Hartley County grand jury did not indict Williams.

The case against Williams was presented in Hartley County District Court in Channing, Texas, at 8 a.m. Wednesday by District Attorney David Green. The grand jury decision to not indict Williams will likely end the criminal case against her.

Green said that grand jurors "looked at the evidence and just decided that no indictment was necessary," according to KVII reporter Matt Hamilton.

It is unclear whether the family of Brianna Gomez, the woman killed in the accident, will file a civil lawsuit against Williams, Hamilton said.

Williams issued a statement, saying: "I'm sure this has been a horrible experience for the Gomez family, as it has been for mine.

"I'm relieved that the grand jury decided not to indict. This was a tragic accident," she said.

"I would like to thank everyone who gave their support and prayers to the Gomez family and to my family. I will always keep them in my thoughts and prayers," Williams said.

Police said that on Dec. 26, Williams' car crossed the center lane of Highway 385 and collided head-on with the SUV that Gomez was riding in.

Gomez, 30, was flown to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, where an emergency Cesarean section was performed. Gomez was pronounced dead after her baby boy was delivered.

The premature infant, Curran Blaec Gomez, weighed just 3 pounds at birth and initially was in critical condition. But he has since been allowed to go home.

Williams has advocated for seatbelt laws in the state and serves on the Senate Transportation Committee. However, according to the police report, none of the passengers in her car -- including her 47-year-old son and two grandsons -- were buckled up at the time of the accident.

A preliminary accident report showed that after the crash Williams picked up her 3-year-old grandson -- who had been ejected -- and moved him into a child's car seat before police arrived.

The traffic report did not explain why Williams was driving on the wrong side of the road. The crash report said her blood was drawn for alcohol and drug testing. The results of those toxicology tests were unknown when the report was written.

Since no party affiliation is given, should we assume Sen. Williams is a (D)?

“The results of those toxicology tests were unknown when the report was written.”

And where and what are those results now?

What a horrible arrogant clueless statement. The Gomez family had to put their loved one's shattered body in a grave for eternity. Her family had to hire a good defense lawyer. Oh, and buy another car for her to drive.

No doubt she passed legislation REQUIRING the LITTLE PEOPLE to wear seat belts and providing serious penalties for those who fail to secure children in proper car seats, right??!! Good thing she’s a member of the ruling class, ain’t it! Might have been in trouble, otherwise.

Ok, I admit it, I was bored. I went to her website and poked around, and I’ll be damned but I couldn’t find which party she belonged to.

Not only do reporters hide it from us, but so do the politicians.

Ain’t life grand! :)

I couldn’t believe the arrogance of that statement. She’s “sure” that it has been a horrible experience for the Gomez family, as if there may be some doubt?

No, lady, it was a TRAGEDY for the Gomez family.

Williams, D-Aurora, was driving near Channing, Texas, on Dec. 26 when her sport utility vehicle crossed the center lane and collided head-on with another vehicle, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

smells to high heaven if you ask me, if a prosecutor can indite a ham sandwich how hard would it have been to get an indictment against her? And conveniently there was no time to get a report on the blood alcohol level, sure I believe that, NOT! This woman committed vehicular manslaughter but will walk because of political connections.

Well, hopefully she’ll face a civil suit. There is probably an ambulance chaser right now advising the Gomez family.

The traffic report did not explain why Williams was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Why would anyone expect a minor little detail like that to appear on the traffic report?
