If it’s RuPaul or Obama I think I’ll just pull the lever with my eyes closed and hope a giant fist comes out and punches me so hard I’m completely unconscious for the next four years.

Nomination for post of the week!!!

Newt is a conservative who was under constant assault for years. Remember the Gingrich That Stole Christmas? Put yourself in his place and think how you would hold up in that situation. Especially when others you thought were your political allies were nowhere to be found coming to your defense. I’m not saying that to excuse Newt, just trying to put it into perspective.

It also helps explain why I love Sarah Palin. She has been treated as unkindly and so far, hasn’t allowed the pressure to get to her.

I did listen to that entire conversation, and read the transcript kindly provided on this thread by EoL.

That’s why it so surprised me then and still surprises me every time Rush keeps mentioning “Era of Reagan is over” which, unfortunately, is almost every time I had a chance to listen.

What about Newt as VP? He would still be able to debate and if Biden is still there, he would be debating Biden....that could be fun.

I like your tagline.

Mitt’s not got a chance. He lost his best chance in 2008. I’m not a Newt fan, and haven’t cared for him since he resigned in 1998. (Am I really that old???)

As for his debate skills....after seeing that “debate” in South Carolina...I have no problem believe he’s the best debater in the lot so far.

Something vaguely unsporting about having a battle of wits an unarmed man. . . .

Well, so be it, I don’t see that, I think he is very intelligent, able to bone up on things very fluidly and be able to explain things very well, which pushes my theory that he is not a dyed-in-the-wool conservative. He’s just simply a political animal who sees an opening and owns it. Right now, the country is so educated, thanks to talk radio, we can see through his folly. All I’m sayin.

LOL! Not for me. After four years of the Obama/Biden duo, a political 10-0 blowout would send a thrill up my leg.

When it’s Democrat male behavior, the libs bend over backwards to defend them. In this case, the suspicion of some people has materialized. It didn’t take much time for a liberal magazine to obliquely defend the head of the IMF. Had a Republican done anything near what he did, he would be pilloried.

Newt was tenacious back in the day. He is best suited to legislating, not administrating and his legislating days are over. It’s time to let younger, fresher, more enthusiastic conservatives take over. Out with the old, in with the new.

I love how he claims she was “out to get him” and that there is this huge plot to ruin him...when he fled, got on a plane and left behind several items in a panic. Yet, lieberals will defend him tooth and nail. Somehow, though, we on the right are the women haters. We want women chained to the kitchen, being sexual slaves. (I actually was accused of this, despite being a woman myself.)

I had to doublecheck on you.....yup, Colorado.

Spent 35 years there, some of it on small-town city councils and Planning/Zoning Commissions. First item on any agenda I ever saw there was “Water”, and the only towns I know of OUT OF THE ENTIRE STATE who’ve got a stable, reliable source of water sufficient for their existing and probable future development are Denver and Broomfield. (And that was as of 10 years ago, so I’m not real sure that Denver’s still on that list.)

Catch a six-month dry spell around that place, with or without snowpack enough to fill reservoirs, and there’s a whole bunch of Prairie Palaces out in Aurora that are going to have bare baked dirt for lawns, every car will be a dirty red and folks will all learn why those lousy Cottonwoods are the only deciduous tree growing down in the flats.

Move rainstorms? Well, that would be nice work if you could get it. JMHO, Colorado would do better for water if they stopped letting California suck it all up. (Go out on the West Slope and mention that deal if you don’t mind getting your ears burned.)

The French are starting to put out articles that it was a set up. But, you are correct. They always strongly defend one of their own almost in a sick way. Kinda like how the muzzies treat their women.

You notice how liberal feminists will always by default believe the woman in a rape allegation, UNLESS the accused is a hero of liberalism (e.g., Bill Clinton)?

Regardless of how unarmed the candidate may be, the moderators are always there for back up. I don't know if you saw any of the O'Donnell/Coons debates, but imho, it was clear O'Donnell had a better grasp of her ideas and the basis for them than Coons (maybe because she wasn't trying to hide or obfuscate them), yet the moderators totally attempted to make her look foolish. When that didn't work, the willing chumps in the media took over.

Sorry, you can't have it both ways.

Newt was great as a minority/backbench, rightwing bomb thrower during his time in the House. As Speaker, Newt's undisciplined nature undermined his leadership. While Newt had some successes as Speaker, he also had some serious failures, both on policy and in his personal life.

Newt has been out of office for 12 years. Fact is, Newt was run out of office for his unappealing leadership, his egotism and his unethical actions and hypocrisy. In the time since Newt has been out of elected office, he has done very little to advance conservatism. His nuanced attempts to reconstruct parts of the conservative agenda hasn't worked.

Just as Bush43's Compassionate Conservatism was a failure. Newt's efforts at a kinder and gentler conservatism has failed. In reality, Newt has part of the problem and not part of the solution.
