Likely the correct account, leaving out the part about his family moving into the largest abandoned home they could find after the Jews had been killed. Just didn't work out. Also an interesting insight into the Arab mind, the expectation that, of course, any Arabs remaining in Israel would be killed. After all, it's what they'd do. In actuality the greatest threat would have been their fellow Arabs had Israel fallen, those who remained and took Israeli citizenship could well be considered traitors

Can't remind people too many times that Abbas was the financier behind the atrocity that launched the modern era of terrorism: the 1972 Munich massacre of Israeli Olympic athletes.
