Yup. You’re dealing with spending junkies here. And there is no way a junkie voluntarily gives up their fix. It will take an outside force like the bond markets to do that.

Default is just repudiation without the fanfare.

Yup. You’re dealing with spending junkies here. And there is no way a junkie voluntarily gives up their fix. It will take an outside force like the bond markets to do that.

Unfortunately, you hit the nail on the head. Just like every junkie, every alcoholic has to hit absolute rock-bottom before they can start to get themselves back together, this country is going to have to hit fiscal rock-bottom, and sovereign default appears to be nigh.
