I got something for you

Unleash the catch phrase or Fire the weapon.

I think that phrase come from Al Pacino in the movie Scarface. That makes it even more suspect. Also as a trained combat Marine his instinct is to identify danger and fire. His instinct is not to play Al Pacino.

I think this is going to be a murder trial before it is over.

Yeah, a murder trial. The wife will be charged with felony murder on some invented claim that she abetted the marine’s felony, whatever they decide that to be. The child probably won’t be charged as an adult, though.

Nor is a Marine veteran going to go into harms way with his weapon's safety engaged. The trigger finger outside of the trigger guard is the safety in a combat situation.

Rule #1) treat all guns as loaded even if you know they're not
Rule #2) a loaded gun is meaningless unless you intend to use it
Rule #3) your intent is meaningless unless you know what your target is
Rule #4) your knowlege is useless without carefull aim
Rule #5) your aim is meaningless unless you actually pull the trigger
Rule #6) its dangerous for your 1st shot to be return fire

There is a corollory set of rules relevent to CCW:

1) CCW is worthless unless you carry your gun
2) CCW is worthless unless your gun is loaded
3) CCW is worthless unless you actually intend to use your gun
4) CCW is worthless unless you actually shoot when you need to

The 4 above were actually cited by a Detroit LEO to an approved CCW applicant. Then in passing, OBTW, after 5 P.M. Friday don't expect any response to your 911 call by DPD until 8 A.M. Monday. You can expect the coroner within 4-6 hours.
