The marriage between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver was terminated because he fathered a child with a member of his household staff, it was revealed Tuesday.
The former Governor of California and his wife announced their separation earlier this month. The couple had been together for 25 years, but remained mum on what cause the split.
The surprising split was sparked when Schwarzenegger admitted to Shriver the child, born 10 years ago, was his.
"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago," Schwarzenegger said in a statement.
"I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family," he said. "There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry."
The 63-year-old former bodybuilder asked that the media "respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not."
In a separate statement, the female employee told the Los Angeles Times she had said that her husband at the time was the child's father. The birth occurred years before Schwarzenegger became governor of California in 2004.
Another source told the Times that Schwarzenegger has provided financial support for the child from the beginning.

Kennedy women have been tolerating their womaninzing men for generations. Maria still would have tolerated hadn’t been for the child Arnold fathered.
He is Presidential material if you are a Democrat. Especially since place of birth no longer matters.

It's not that he fathered the baby that gets to her, it is that he let it live and didn't offer it up to the god of the kennedies as a little human blood sacrifice.
Schwarzenegger is a jerk and a slop. One would think he was a (gasp), a Kennedy!
