You are right, KA...he was a very strong opponent of illegal immigration. He was, also, very pro-Union, as you stated.
I lived in The Big Valley at the time he was in the news.
However, I don’t think any ship should be named after anyone other than those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this great country.
It makes me sad to see the Navy being so PC...but they’ve been that way since my husband resigned his commission in 1976.

Agreed. I have seen some posts here that identified Sailors and Marines of Latino Origin who paid the Ultimate Sacrifice for our Country.
How Chavez was chosen is beyond my limited comprehension. Obviously, Politics trumps Honor in today's Military.
