My Wife's Mother, Niece, Two Sisters and their Husbands, the “latest” two LOL, live in Natchez. One Husband gets me, the other (the Lib), not so much. I'll be visiting all of them before I go to N.O. for the Conference.

The Conference is at the Hilton on the River walk, so if the River rises it might flood that whole area. We'll see. I hear that the flooding in Vicksburg is higher than they estimated, so who knows what N.O. will look like in a few weeks.

My Wife and I are in Southern California. Her Brother lives down here as well, but he and his Wife are planning on moving up to Oregon next year near Portland.

How do you like it there? Must be quite the change from your younger years in the South.

Isn't it funny how a thread about the Navy naming a ship after a Commie turns into a Family Relationship and Travelogue discussion? This place cracks me up.

It is so nice to know someone who has, albeit intertwined, lived my life.

So...I love the River Walk. There is so much flooding going on upriver that I don’t think Baton Rouge or N’Awlins have anything to worry about. To me, that is such a shame. They are intentionally flooding excellent farmland to prevent two cities from suffering. Disclaimer...I’ve lived in both of those cities. Expect your fresh produce to increase in price even more, and God love those folks who will be devastated by these floods.

I’ve been in the Portland area for almost 20 years, and I don’t like it one bit. That’s my opinion. Portland, because of the government benefits, is where people from all over the country go to be homeless, and where young people go to “retire”.

Because of the “benefits”.

I’m a tad bitter at the way I’ve watched those from your area invade what was once a nice environment in which people could live. It had, and still has, a strong libertarian streak, but that has been overwhelmed by the influx of SoCal folks.

They found that they could get outrageous prices for their homes, so they sold them, moved here, and brought their politics with them. Dang them...

It’s not just a change from my younger years in the South. I’ve been married for over 40 years. I’ve lived all over the country. This area is offensive to me.

Sorry to be such a downer.

It really is so nice to meet people on threads, even if it is OT. ;o)
