Two Other Reactors Suffer Serious Damage
By MITSURU OBE
TOKYOSubstantial damage to the fuel cores at two additional reactors of Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex has taken place, operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Sunday, further complicating the already daunting task of bringing them to a safe shutdown while avoiding the release of high levels of radioactivity. The revelation followed an acknowledgment on Thursday that a similar meltdown of the core took place at unit No. 1.

The pressure vessel a cylindrical steel container that holds nuclear fuel, "is likely to be damaged and leaking water at units Nos. 2 and 3," said Junichi Matsumoto, Tepco spokesman on nuclear issues, in a news briefing Sunday.
He also said there could be far less cooling water in the pressure vessels of Nos. 2 and 3, indicating there are holes at the bottom of these vessels, with thousands of tons of water pumped into these reactors mostly leaking out.

P!
omg when will it end?
You can be sure the, err...AMISH are watching the effects in Japan of all this and are pondering something man-initiated for us USA infidels.
Prayers 4 Japan.
Unfortunately our worst fears are slowly materializing before our eyes. Apparently they were just very lucky that the wind was blowing out to sea when #3 exploded. Otherwise a band of land all the way across the Japanese Island would be a no go area right now.
I had the same idea. The radiation fallout could saw Japan in two: region to the north of Fukushima and the one to the south. Hasn't happened yet, but it is an ongoing possibility.
Some of us realized very early on it was a major catastophy, a melt down. There was no “slowly materializing” about it.
In other words, you jumped to some of the right conclusions, this time. I marvel at how glad you must be that you were right.
Congratulations. And welcome to Free Republic.
It's the China US Syndrome.
And many others, even here on FR, are still in denial.
Knowing what is going on and seeing the MSM and state governments slowly admit what is going on are two completely different things. The latter is what is slowly materializing.
So where is all the radioactive water going?
Just imagine if India and Pakistant go to war and set off their 100 nuclear bombs. Fallout across the US?? Just imagine if the oil industry doesn’t build more refineries in areas not prone to hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, and flooding. Seven dollar gas anyone?
I saw some epoxy on late-night-TV guaranteed to stop any plumbing leak! Maybe they should try it.
What is happening in Fukushima is going to be emitting high levels of radiation for many months and possibly a few years. The Chernobyl graphite fire was over in a week. This has been going on now for over two months already.
And I am a Drill Baby Drill type.
“So where is all the radioactive water going?
Never Never land.
At any rate, the radioactive water is not the worse problem, the corium following it is the incredibly bad problem. A radioactive lava flow that will kill any life that gets near it. And they are using the water to solidify as much of the corium flow as possible.
I don't usually gloat but the congratulations are in order. Thanks.
Small correction to your kudos, though. It was not jumping to conclusions. The problems at the Japan nuclear plant were obvious to all except those in serious denial.
Amazing how even in the face of graphic evidence, say like the roofs blowing off the place, that people still suggested all was well.
If I took it out of context, then you have my apology.
The plutonium in reactor 3 was distressing for a while, but now that I know what I know, well, it’s a crap situation for sure, but Tokyo is likely to be fairly unaffected besides the manufacturing and farming issues. Its not a good situation, but it could have been (or still become) a much worse situation, but basically everything is normal for us in Tokyo. It’s no condolence to those affected and that lost family, but its going to be interesting to see how this plays out and over the next 8000 years. My guess is that it will be “interesting and educational”. Frankly, I’m not too worried, but that could certainly change in the future.
