Two days after U.S. Navy Seals Team 6 made headlines around the world for the dramatic raid that killed terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden, the Walt Disney Company trademarked their name, reports FishbowlNY.
This doesn't effect how the Navy uses the moniker for military purposes, but it does mean we may soon be seeing 'Seal Team 6' branded products and entertainment.
According to records viewable online with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Disney filed the Trademark paperwork on May 3, 2011 for 'Seal Team 6'.

I really regret not doing down south to met him and his wife and family before he died.
I did get a letter from his son after his death. He told me his dad loved the signed autograph copy of War Stories that Col. North signed for him. I did not know until much later that when Marine Vet was a Gunny,he served with Col. North
I do miss some of the folks from that chat, with the exception of Free Mumia or whatever his name was.
I'll even bet that the NY Times movie reviewer somehow heard it and was fooled, inspired, and rushed off to express his admiration; he missed the end where Obama is mocked.
I think he told Batchelor that he linked to segments of the movie to highlight Obama's daring.
Most likely the DOD asked Disney to take the name off the market, with the proviso that they would never use it.
“Wearing commercial merchandise ALL of the branches actively market to anyone and everyone is not the same as stolen valor.”
It is marketing, just like Budweiser Lite. Darned good marketing. Particularly in Texas where Marines are highly regarded.
Dear Walt,
We tried, The character artists tried. We tried to keep your vision of ‘Americana’ alive. We tried to keep your characters a good influence to kids and not do things just for a buck. Like dressing Mickey, Donald and Goofy as rappers, Oh, I forgot your dead. You don’t know what they are. Rap is singing like Dr.Suess but not for kids.
Anyway your company was taken over by a bunch of fashion Ave, male flight attendants and advertising lesbians. and the artists were put into cubicles and then told to ‘think out of the box.’ These are bullsh!t terms by talentless turds to make them sound ‘creative’.
I tried to pitch a program based on the WW2 patches you did for the Government when Hollywood use to back America, it’s a long story and it was before 9-11. Forgot again, 9-11 is an even longer story and you don’t want to know.
My idea was shot down, the reason.....”’Mickey is a universal citizen not just an American.” I guess you didn’t know that when you created him.
Anyway Pearl Harbor II happened, that was 9-11 Walt. Just replace the Arizona with The Twin Towers.
This time a Democratic President doesn’t fight the war, he caused it.
By this time your artists were moved out of their cubes and out of your company. (This is the way we run companies now in America.) Well after this tragedy they couldn’t wrap Mickey or put him in front of a flag fast enough and I couldn’t help think it was for a buck.
Now I know, and I will say it again, YOU F@<%!^& WHORES!
Since then Walt, I use my talent for our troops, I am using Capt. America, you own him too and yes they are going to destroy him.
Signed, the last American artist you had.

I do too, Martha. I was just thinking about them the other day. “Big Marine” died a few years ago in San Diego. I spoke with his wife shortly afterward. That was good fun, a lot of good political arguments. I first went on in 1998, just as Monica was hitting the news.
Come to a Navy home football game on a nice warm Saturday in September, and you will see Marine jerseys on very attractive young ladies whose chests, I am pretty sure, were not the result of doing pushups.
Thank you for pointing out this very important distinction between an application for a trademark and the award of a trademark. My reaction exactly — they won’t get it.
You are absolutely correct and I was 180 degrees out. Walt, if you are monitoring this forum, please accept my apologies :)

Walt Disney was a very talented and gifted businessman with no notable liberal or leftist tendencies. The depictions of him that I have read makes him come across as patriotic. He was more than a bit unusual - I think he filmed presentations to his board of directors to be screened years after he passe away, to keep the Disney empire expanding on track with his timetable and vision), for example.
His politics and attitude were not a secret. In ‘Iron Man 2’ a year or so ago, the character of Howard Stark (Tony Stark/Iron Man’s father) is clearly patterned after Walt Disney, with his ‘Stark Expo’ worlds fair type event and park, as well as filmed presentations, clearly evoking Disney (both in look and manner).
Howard Stark, in that fictional work, was a very patriotic American, working with the military to develop new weapons, for example, and as shall be seen in the upcoming film ‘Captain America,’ was working on WW2’s ‘super soldier’ program as well as a founding member of the secret troubleshooting organization in the Marvel universe, ‘SHIELD.’
Walt Disney wasn’t a leftist at all. Unusual at times, yes. Leftist? Not much evidence for that.
Get a life.
I appreciate your service and your daughter’s. But ...
eff ewe
You served when the KIA rates where at their highest.
Semper Fi.
You are correct and I was wrong. I've already done my mea culpa. Read on down and findit if you need it to placate your indignity.
Just defending Mr Disney’s rep, that’s all.
