Other Instant recognition tunes
Sympathy For the Devil [first bongo hit]
Paint It Black [first guitar note]
Yep. Good ones. How about Satisfaction?
Drum solo - Get Off My Cloud?
I have been trying to find a song that was on VH-1 about 30 or 40 years ago Sand Dance (I think)any of you youngsters heard it?
I would have thought “When the Levee Breaks” would have been a no-brainer at the top of the drum list.
There is no competition for the best drum finish, “Love Reign O’er Me.” Moonies’ last real great moment....but just wow!
Agreed.
Oh, wow...lucky *you*!
None of the old greats ever come around here unless they’re opening for Jethro Tull.
That was the only way I ever got to see Procul Harum play.
No, I didn’t...and thank you...:)
KansasSomg for America

"Kids if you want some fun....Mr LaPage is your man...."
Also I think "Show Biz Kids" was the first song I'm aware of with an F-bomb in it.
Yup.
The Stones were great at making iconic songs.
Who doesn’t instantly recognize the intro to Gimme Shelter?
“Who doesn’t instantly recognize the intro to Gimme Shelter?”
Maybe it’s because I listened to them so much, but almost every one of them I can name almost instantly...Wild Horses, Factory Girl, Waiting on a Friend, Honkey Tonk Women, and of course ... Start Me up!
“Guitar— Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love by Van Halen”
Yes, that’s a good’n. Looks easy to learn.

The drum opening of Sunday, Bloody, Sunday should be up there.

This is the one i have on an album somewhere in a closet. This is the definitive opening for the song.
For something that's "Not quite guitar, not quite bass," there's Tony Levin's intro for Elephant Talk by King Crimson, played on his Chapman Stick.
For bass, a 3 way tie... Tony Levin again for "Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel and John Paul Jones for "Dazed and Confused" by Led Zepplin, and finaly Michael Manring for "Cruel and Unusual" from his solo album "Thonk."
For drums, there are just so many... But one that's so simple and fits so perfectly with what's coming up in the rest of the song is Stuart Copeland's "Murder By Numbers" by The Police.

Same here....LOL!
[right now, I can *not* get “Miss You” outta my head]
