Rather than go for a “garbage degree”, our son went for an ME (Mechanical Engineering) degree...

This is a common theme on FR threads about college degrees. I just wonder whether you and others are cognizant of the reality that not every college student is capable of handling the mathematics (particularly that) required to get those engineering degrees.

Howie66 did clarify his comments to me, and I think he was speaking in a general sense. I simply don't understand math enough to be an engineer. It never interested me, probably because I didn't immediately understand it. However, I've always been able to analyze multiple variables in terms of business, and make sense of them immediately. This is why I now own my own consulting business, and am making a name for myself in the NW energy circles as someone who can piece together complex scenarios and find a relatively simple solution to them.

I think Howie66 would agree with me on this: a smart, hard worker will always be successful in the USA, no matter their degree (or lack of degree, even).

My son went for a degree that suited him. Just because it’s Engineering doesn’t mean that ALL other degrees are garbage.

I think that you can tell which ones are garbage and which ones aren’t. I gave a partial listing earlier. I think that you would concur. At least I would hope so.

And remember that only about 30% of those 24 and older have a college degree. Less than 1% have an advanced degree. 50% of people have an IQ below 100. Only about 3% of college graduates have an IQ of 100 or lower. Everbody can’t handle the intellectual rigor (what there is) and everybody doesn’t want to.

I think your missing the point badly. The point is why spend $50-200k for a degree in something like Czech language posted earlier.
