EXETER, N.H. -- Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, officially entered the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination Friday.
He said, "At this moment I'm officially announcing I am a candidate."
"The time has come around to the point where the people are agreeing with much of what I've been saying for 30 years so I think the time is right," he told ABC's "Good Morning America."
Paul, 75, made the announcement ahead of a rally in Exeter, part of a two-day swing through New Hampshire following a stop in Iowa.
The libertarian, who has already run twice for the presidency in 1988 and 2008, had already formed a presidential exploratory committee, opened an office in Iowa and raised more than a million dollars online on the day of the first Republican presidential debate in South Carolina last week.

GOOD! The more the better! Let him bring his ideas so they can be looked at and or rejected. He will make debates better if nothing else. Is he a nut? Maybe, but maybe he has a few good ideas. Its called A Republic—and it only works if people take part. Bring on the war of ideas!
I love these threads. You get the conservatives who know Ron Paul is pretty much a joke and we see him as nothing more than comic relief.
Then you get the scattered worshipful comments made by Paul’s acolytes, saying things like “Ron Paul is the only person who cares about the constitution,” or “Ron Paul is the only one who can save us,” etc. and it just gets more entertaining. LOL
It'll get even more entertaining when the Paulbots start accusing Palin supporters of acting like a "cult".
Any candidate that wants to cut spending (cut government) is a fool?
Other than Ron Paul, who has has a tax and spending plan that will get us out of this mess?
And then you get morons that support candidates that have an R by there name, even though they don't have the courage to step in and actually reduce the size of government and spending.
I didn't realize the securing subsidies from shrimpers was cutting government. But that's not why he's wrong for the job -- his association with anti-Semites, "truthers", and his inexplicable inability to entertain the idea of using force against people who have directly attacked the US are some of the better ones.
Besides, while Ron Paul is a fool and a crank, that doesn't invalidate all of his views.
Other than Ron Paul, who has has a tax and spending plan that will get us out of this mess?
Bachmann, Cain, and Palin at the very least. Possibly Daniels as well -- we'll have to see.
Palin increased taxes on the oil industry in Alaska and used the money to increase state payments to the each citizen.
Is that what you want from your government?
Palin restructured the taxes to close sweetheart deal loopholes created by previous corrupt governments. The increased revenue led to a huge budget surplus, plus the payments that went to Alaskan citizens because it's their oil, virtue of the Alaskan Constitution, a situation unique in the 50 states.
On the other hand, you have Paul who puts earmarks into legislation to benefit his district, knowing they will pass, and then votes against his own earmarks, decrying the whole system.
Which one do I have more faith in to reverse the mess the federal government has gotten the economy into? Hmmm... tough choice...
Oh, yeah...thanks for reminding me. Anothter thing Paulbots do is accuse those of us who don’t support their demigod of supporting scumbag RINOs
What’s next...the dreaded “neocon” label? LOL
Are you talking about the same Ron Paul who talked a good game and has done nothing while he was in Congress.. Well except he did give money to the Shrimp industry..
