Unbelievable. My wife and myself stopped at one of those In ‘n Outs once years ago, and couldn’t find any reason to make a point of going out of our way to return. If one of those restaurants is in the way, and we are hungry we will stop and eat, but NO it’s not anything to get excited about.
It’s a burger joint for cryin’ out loud.
the place is okay and they are very nice and efficient but nothing to cry over.
if you eat their every day you will be the size of drive thru real soon !
Both make a great burger, but I'd give the edge to Five Guys. It also costs more.
Speaking as a foodie and home gourmet cook, a great burger is one of the best things there is.
I liken it to Coors beer that forever was only available west of the Mississippi and people back east were going nuts when it was finally rolled out east of the Mississippi. For a few months Coors was this magical golden nectar of the gods. Then people finally realized it was actually beer, and a pretty ordinary beer at that.
Somehow, In-N-Out has maintained an image of selling some kind of magical, locally hand-made burger and fries. And as they slowly roll east, they keep the tease going. And so long as people get intrigued because they are bored with McD and BK, it works.
It is like the Abilene paradox - and at some point people will realize that they all have been fooling themselves thinking that they have to play the game everybody else is playing. It's OK, that is what branding and advertising and personalizing the product is all about. But give me a nice, mass-produced quarter-pounder with cheese, no pickles, no onions, and a medium fries and it's good, mmmm-mmmm good.
