When considering high speed rail, has anyone looked at the number of accidents with regular trains and what would happen if an accident occured at speeds of 100mph? How may people would say could survive a wreck like that.

I can't imagine a high-speed passenger service on the existing trackage. If that train ever collided with another train, vehicles at uncontrolled crossings, people or animals, it would be catastrophic.

It would have to be BART writ large: completely grade-separated, new stations, etc. And who is the ridership for this without massive subsidies? If it is in the Central Valley, what would it connect - Sacramento to Fresno?

The liberal news stations ( That would be all of them) in Florida are moaning about how Gov. Scott gave the 2.5 Billion back that will now go to other states. As Gov. Scott points out, we already lose 35 million + per year on the Light rail system in Dade, Broward and Palm beach counties, probably the highest population density in the state.
