With a stroke of the governor's pen, Florida is positioned to become the first state in the nation to prohibit physicians from asking patients if they have guns in their homes, a move some doctors say will interfere with health care.
The Florida Senate passed House Bill 155 last month by a 27-10 vote and the measure now awaits the signature of Republican Gov. Rick Scott. If signed, it would ban doctors from asking about the presence of guns or ammunition in the home.
Republican State Rep. Jason Brodeur, a sponsor of the bill, proposed the legislation following an incident in which a Florida pediatrician told a mother to find another doctor when she refused to answer questions about guns in her home.
Supporters of the legislation, including the National Rifle Association, say they're seeking to stop doctors from invading their privacy. Critics of the bill, however, claim that doctors need to ask patients about guns to ensure their safety and to make sure they remain out of the reach of children.

Unless you are coming in with a gunshot wound or the doctor is your hunting buddy, there is no reason a doctor would ever even bring up the subject of a gun.
“there is no reason a doctor would ever even bring up the subject of a gun.”
Ahh but they do. Anti-gun doctors will question the parents and kids without the parents if they can.
It's the doctor's job to ensure my safety? I did not know that...
I agree, I mean to say should instead of would.
Of course, if I ever was, I'd answer “no”. But I've never been asked.
In some states the doctor can decide you are unstable and a danger, thereby revoking your ability to possess firearms.
wow..... reason 10098 why I’m glad I’m in Texas.
My kid’s pediatrician asks this quesiton, and it irks me to no end.
NJ pediatricians ask children if there are firearms in the home.
See #9, I think it is mainly pediatrians who ask it, AND they direct the question at your kid not you. They ask a whole list of similar questions, such as, “Do you where a helmet when you ride your bike?”
I think ours asked it once. They didnt like my answer.
If any doctor ask that question when my kids were little, I would make like the Donald......and say.....YOUR FIRED. That should not be tolerated by any parent...
Just wait and see if the democrats ever get their wish of health care that is fully nationalized and your doctor becomes a federal employee. Not only will you be required to answer these questions, but answering falsely will be considered lying to a federal official, a criminal offense.
If Obamacare becomes law that is exactly what will happen. Tranquilizers and muscle relaxants for back spasms will disqualify you. Doctors will be forced to report these.
“”doctors need to ask patients about guns to ensure their safety and to make sure they remain out of the reach of children.””
And they are going to achieve that how?
Do they ask if the family owns a pool? 6 times as many children die in accidental drownings than accidental gunshots.
Hmmm. I’m going to have to prep my son for his 3 year appointment.
Ped: “Are there guns in your home?” Roman: “How else will Mommy shoot rabbits out of the garden?”
Ped: “Do you wear a bicycle helmet?” Roman: “Do I look like a candy ass?”
I would totally be okay with my son cussing if he gave that reply.
Why, just the other day I was in my doctor’s office. He walks in, looks around all puzzled and then says to me, “have you seen my gun?”
