Workers of Cuban origin can sue Walmart, judge rules

NEW YORK — Former Wal-Mart Stores Inc. warehouse workers of Cuban origin may pursue a lawsuit accusing the world's largest retailer of discrimination, and of firing them when they complained about their treatment.

Rolando Padron, Bobirt Miranda and Eusebio Calzada accused Wal-Mart in October of paying them less and giving them different work schedules than non-Cuban workers, and denying them "make-up" days.

We are quickly headed for a day when mostly unelected judges decide everything rather than the voters through their legislatures and executives.

The sad thing is the voters often know something is wrong, but can’t seem to connect the politicians they vote for to the judges that wind up on the bench.

I have no idea if this case has any merit, but it was elected legislators, not unelected judges, who made discrimination in employment based on national origin illegal.
