ATLANTA (AP) --- Newt Gingrich, the House speaker who led a national GOP resurgence in the 1990s before facing ethics questions and resigning, is running for president.
Gingrich's announcement, made on social networking websites Monday, came after months of public flirting with a bid. He enters a slow-to-form GOP presidential field that has left some Republicans craving more options as they search for a nominee strong enough to credibly challenge President Barack Obama.
The former Georgia congressman, well-known to most Republicans, brings to the race a years-in-the-making political machine with ties to early nominating states as well as a network of supporters and donors. But his personal baggage --- he's acknowledged marital infidelity and has had two divorces --- could hinder his chances of winning the party's presidential nomination more than a decade after leaving the House.
Still, he spoke confidently of wide support.

good points!
I’m in it for the dating possibilities!
ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Who cares? About 15 years too late, Newt. 20 to 25 years ago, he was probably the most effective advocate of conservative government out there. Now he’s a parody.
Newt isn’t electable, but I do see a positive from this.
Gingrich, for all his many faults, is an outstanding debater who will force all other GOP candidates to bring their “A” game they face him through the primaries.
They will have to raise their level and that’ll be a good for whoever goes forward in the general election.
I agree, and the GOP seems resigned to that fact too, considering the abject weakness of the current field. There are good candidates in that field, but are too obscure and poorly funded to make an impact, at least in 2012.
This swine spoiled little fat POS Gingrich is only there for partying and looking good. I cannot stand this guy. He feels entitled, he will not go away, he is part of the union.
Go away, Newt.
Yawn
I don't believe that...Newt's a Globalist...He's one of the 'elite' Globalists...He will carry the torch for the others who are out to destroy the sovereignty of the United States of America in lieu of a New World Order...A One World Government...
I'll vote 3rd Party first...
I think he has the “gravitas” to be president...actually more than any other GOP candidates. However, I cannot abide by his serial marital infidelity. Show me an unfaithful husband, and I am seeing someone that cannot be trusted with control of the government. Of course I don’t trust the current POTUS at all. So, even Newt would be a better choice that Barrack.
That being said, I would vote for him over Romney in a primary. If they run, my first choice in a primary will be either Huckabee or Palin (they both have positives and negatives in my thinking). Currently, there is no candidate spoken of running or potentially so that I hold in high regard. No one inspires me to the point that I would give them money to run.
Gringrich is in the pocket of the ethanol lobby and global warming crowd.
He should be labeled as “Ethanol Newt”.
That picture is all anyone needs to see and know to form a negative opinion about Gingrich.
Gingrich is a threat to us. Since all his life he has reacted to women like a crow to shiny trinkets, we know he is susceptible to enemies’ honey traps. He cannot refuse a snapped thong pantie.
I like Newt. I would request that people refrain from trashing him or any of the other candidates. We have a big field. Let’s give them all a chance to say what they’ve got to say. Honestly, I could support pretty much any of them if they got the nomination, so I’m not going to bash them.
Newt has a lot of baggage and I can’t conceive that I would ever vote for him in the primary, but I do believe that there is more conservatism in Newt’s toenail clippings than there is in Donald Trump’s entire chunky, orange-tinted body.
This is a great thread to wake up and read! Some of these posts are making me laugh like a nut!
I didn’t think Obama would have a primary challenge.
If Newt got the nomination, to be rid of Obama I would vote for him. That is the only instance that I can think of in which I would.
I am far more concerned about THOSE types of alliances with pure evil than I give a rip about his marriages!
Newt has proven to me over the past few years that he is all about making money, selling books, etc.
He is a smart man, but has proven that his opinions will change on a dime if it will earn a dollar.
Do a search on Gingrich and ethanol. Very enlightening.
