Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Saturday that Congress should be responsible for tackling the nations illegal immigration problem, not the individual states. It is the feds' duty to secure the border and they are best equipped to do so, even though they haven't. As to interior enforcement, the states and locals are far better equiped. The feds don't show up at traffic stops, crime scenes, etc. Locals do.

it's mainly because of the poor economy. Well said
an administration that added 17 million to the food stamp ranks has also cut illegal immigration

Uncle Sam should be bowing to the will of the states, not vice versa.
To: ColdOne
It’s down because there are no new jobs....haha...not because of Obama’s ‘enforcement’.

The only problem with Obama’s approach to reducing illegal immigration is that it requires destroying the economy first to reduce their incentive.

Saying the illegal immigration is down by 36 percent under Obama, Napolitano said, "I think these efforts on a state by state level first of all have predicated a falsity...
And I suppose the Great Recession has nothing to do with the illegals returning home when the gravy train stopped...

There are federal laws on the books that the federal government is not enforcing. There are sanctuary cities that have said, in effect, screw the law. If they want to secede from the Union, I’ll let them.
These laws were passed by the people’s representatives in Congress, in accordance with the Constitution.

Congress mandated building fence and limiting immigration. The executive branch has not lived up to their obligations.

...illegal immigration is down by 36 percent under Obama,...
If so only because people are thinking, "Holy crap, why waste time getting into a place with a president who's crashing and burning the economy? We can stay right where we are for third world dictards."

See FR article where AZ sheriff says feds are up their old tricks `cooking the books’:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2716668/posts
They are trying to lay a foundation for saying `The border is secure, so now we can talk about `Comp. Immi. Reform’... ‘ (or, the system works).
No amnesty!

Saying the illegal immigration is down by 36 percent under Obama...Well,
golly, Janet, did the thought ever enter your addlepated noggin that
high unemployment is the reason for the drop in illegal immigration?
It sure as hell isn't down because the border is secure, no matter how loud you squeal that it is.
