"Celebrity Apprentice" stars urged to denounce Trump

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - An African-American political advocacy group is targeting "Celebrity Apprentice" star Donald Trump in the aftermath of what many feel are racially tinged political comments made about President Obama.

On Thursday, the organization ColorOfChange launched a Twitter-based campaign to persuade black "Celebrity Apprentice" cast members Star Jones and Lil Jon to denounce Trump for what the group terms "race-baiting."

Trump has made headlines in recent weeks by repeatedly questioning whether Obama was born in the U.S. Obama released his longform birth certificate April 27 with the hope of settling the matter, but the issue has been kept alive by a segment of the "birther" movement.

"This is the first organized attempt to target these celebrities and demand that they, as prominent African-Americans, take a public stance against Donald Trump's ongoing attacks against President Obama," ColorOfChange said in a statement.

Publicists representing Jones and Lil Jon did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Groupon, the discount shopping website, pulled its online advertisements from the "Celebrity Apprentice" website last week after customers -- spurred on by progressive advocacy group ThinkProgress -- complained.

Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter contacted nearly all of the companies that have recently aired advertisements on the long-running reality competition series to ask whether they might follow in Groupon's footsteps.

"Apprentice" advertisers Kay Jewelers, Allstate, Microsoft and Procter & Gamble declined to comment on their advertising plans, and more than 30 others did not respond to phone calls and emails.

Rashad Robinson, executive director of ColorOfChange, said the campaign has started strongly. "We've gotten a lot of people tweeting," said Robinson, adding that the goal is to send a message to Jones, Lil Jon and other "Celebrity Apprentice" cast members that "they can't have a relationship with the black community

Maybe they don't want a relationship with a "black community" that has such silly and rigid rules.

If this particular "black community" insists on being a separate entity from the United States, I say we just ignore them.

After all these Color of Change people don't really make the rules for the "black community." They just like to think they do.

If you do not hire Blacks you are racist.

If you do hire Blacks, you will be denouced by someone you hired if you do not act, promote, and appropriately respond to every perceived grievance.

Is there any wonder why there might be a reluctance to hire Blacks?

They and the media have done a great job marjinalizing him

Trump marginalized himself. He latched on to the birther stuff, pushed the idea, said his investigators were discovering "amazing" things that they "couldn't believe they were finding", and then had the entire conspiracy blow up in his face when Hussein released the long form.

He gets no press now, that is how it works

Oh stop it. Trump can get press coverage whenever he wants. He is keeping himself out of the press because he looks like a fool having advanced a conspiracy theory that's been completely debunked. Then he goes out and gives a speech dropping F bombs and calling the Chinese mother****ers. He's completely embarrassed himself and obviously decided to lay low for awhile.

"The Donald" has squat. Further, he is NOT a conservative and has zero chance of winning the Republican nomination. Trump the clown is done politically. The only way he can stay relevant is to run a 3rd party indie bid which would only serve to siphon off some of the anti-Hussein vote and guarantee four more years for Obama.

Hussein is NOT going to be beaten by conspiracy theories. Obama is a bad President, he's wrecked the economy, he's driven this country to the brink of bankruptcy, and once we nominate a real conservative candidate who runs on actual issues (NOT birther nonsense) we will defeat him in 2012.

0bama’s green piece of paper is not a BC.

Jindal’s BC is a “true and correct copy of a document registered with the State”

0bama’s “BC” is an “abstract of a record”
WTF-a record?
Show us a true and complete copy of the Record!

Except McCarthy was mostly correct - there were LOTS of communists who infiltrated the government (particularly the state dept) and throughout the intellectual and entertainment establishment. On the other hand, ColorOfChange are nothing but a bunch of race hustling thugs.

I agree with you on most of what you said...the point of my article was not to support trump but to highlight exactly how the left marginalizes any candidate that begins to rise in the polls. The did a wonderful job on Palin, Ryan, Cain and whomever else’s head pops up. Note, none of the issues are dollar and cents issues, they are always social or philosophical ones.

There will be no revolution in the US for a couple of reasons. The first is the military is way too powerful and second the population is too comfortable.

The military that's been bogged down by 9th century bandits for ten years? The military operating under our current ROE would be foolish to occupy a single U.S. city. If the ROE was relaxed, you'd have desertions, sabotage and outright mutinies. The U.S. military is a powerful tool, but turning on the American people will shatter it to pieces.

As far as a comfortable population, FRiend, we're only a few years out from the kind of discomfort that hasn't been seen in generations. You'll be amazed how bold, inventive and audacious your average American can be once we hit insolvency and the checks from Uncle Sugar stop flowing. There's enough good insurgency information on the internet to raise effective rebels everywhere. Hell, there are 50 intact regional governments with their own militaries and security forces.

I spent several years in Iraq, Afghanistan and other nations dealing with this exact issue. A civil war in America is a doomsday scenario, a collage of worst-case counterinsurgency factors. The government has some strong advantages out the gate, but once you get past the initial tipping point, it would be a horrific, multi-layered catastrophe beyond anyone's ability to control.

Trump's marginilization is a symptom of a greater problem. Both sides of the American political spectrum are learning and applying revolutionary political tactics. Advanced Alinsky-ite measures, not just designed to win, but to destroy. The better the right adapts to fight the left using the lefts own weapons, the more likely a fight will break out. It just takes time, and a spark.

Trump, the “conservative”, is learning what most Republican politicians have known for a long time. When it come to racism, you are guilty, and likely will never be proven innocent. Ask Rush...and he's not even a politician.

I'm glad it's Trump, and not a viable conservative candidate soaking up all the kook fringe energy right now. Even makes Ron Paul seem more reasonable.

And in this you are entirely correct. It's just that I don't think it applies to Trump. I think his problems are entirely self inflicted.

“The better the right adapts to fight the left using the lefts own weapons, the more likely a fight will break out. It just takes time, and a spark.”

Hopefully we will be discussing this for many years as I don’t see the will for this to happen. I know it will be a catastophy beyond comprehension, seen it elsewhere earlier.

"I have to wonder about the sanity of the Groupon executives when they refused to sell to Google after being offered $6 billion for the company considering the the age and depth of the company. All I have ever scene from them are 1/2 price deals for restaurants dozens of miles from anywhere. I never used them and even got off their notification list."

I actually liked Groupon for their restaurant coupons and have been using them. However, after this I have sent them an email stating that I would no longer participate in their programs, told them why, and that I would urge others to stop using Groupon, as well.
